Houston - The Houston Renegades have been making attempts at signing their star WR to a three year extension, and are reportedly close to finalizing the deal. Jones, who is having a career season with 1,428 receiving yards after only 13 weeks is eligible to become a free agent after next season.
There are also rumors out of Houston that to make room for Jones' contract, GM Steve Vega may be shopping star running back Wilford Timmerman this coming off-season. There were rumors of it last off-season, but he decided to keep the running back on the roster to avoid a bigger salary cap hit. There have been increasing rumors that Timmerman has been growing unhappy with the losing situation in Houston and seeks a fresh start elsewhere. He understands the youth on the team may take seasons to fully develop, but doesn't want to stick around and wait for that to happen. He was quoted as saying "When you're relying on rookie linemen to open holes for you, it's going to be a frustrating season. I just hope Jerry lives long enough until that line develops".
In related news, Stclair was sacked another 4 times this week, making it 11 sacks since big guard Arnoldo Ellsworth went down with a season ending injury. He still managed to 212 yards with 1 TD against the very tough Salt Lake City Stallions in a 14-13 victory, the third of Houston's season.
