Mules Still Kicking in AFCS
Murfreesboro – With six games remaining in the Inaugural Imperial Football League season the Murfreesboro Mules still control their own destiny in the AFCS. The Mules, led by Vanderbilt product Manuel Willoughby, are one game off the pace but have a game left against AFCS leading St.Louis Cardinals and Louisiana VooDoo. The Cardinals took both games from the VooDoo in their season series. An interesting note to the last six games of the season is that there are two teams that have all three contending teams on their schedule. The spoilers for the AFCS are the Texas Hellriders and the Little Rock Toads. Both of these teams are contending for the NFCS title as well. Jessie Lewis, HC of the Mules, had this to say about the surprisingly contending Mules “we started like crap, we play like crap, Willoughby gets the crap knocked out of him, can’t run for crap, linebackers can’t tackle crap. Yet if we can manage to turn this crap around and take care of our own crap down the stretch we can win the crappy AFCS title and bring IFL playoff football to Murfreesboro Tennessee, or else we will all be fishing for crappie in Percy Priest Lake”
Sidebar : the Mules unsuccessfully protested the week six game against the VooDoo. Faithful readers will recall that this was the game that Louisiana backup QB Travis Knight threw a 64 yard TD, his only TD pass of the year, as time expired. Then the VooDoo ran for a conversion to tie the game with no time on the clock. The VooDoo continued their improbable luck and won the overtime coin toss and then drove the field for the winning TD. This is the now known as the Hail Marie Laveau play.
Second Sidebar : Manuel Willoughby has been sacked 42 times in 10 IFL games. This is 6.4% of all IFL sacks so far and on pace for an IFL record 67 sacks.
