Oakland Press, Oakland, Ca
What started out has The Season for the Assassins, has turned into a round trip ticket to the emergengy room. Starting out blazing, the Assassins could not be stopped. Averaging 32 points a game, and a staggering 60% on 3rd downs, Oakland was rolling to a sure playoffs spot. Then..................The wheels fell off.
The injurys started to pile up, one.... after another, after another, and then again...........after another. At one point this year, Oakland was playing with nearly 50% backups. The defensive is currently decimated, losing 7 starters, 4 who are gone for the year, including ALL WORLD defensive end Derek Nelson.
The playoffs are now a distant memory, and just getting through yet another losing season is once again, the point of thought.
All of the pieces are here for Oakland. Recieving stud wideout Kurt Bice in the off season was a god send for Phenom Gene Hamilton. Connell is not used to his ability, however he can take over games at will. Defensive stud Derek Nelson was on his way to his best season yet before a season ending injury ruined that. And on the other side of Bice is All Nation Martinez who is just now starting to show what he is capable of. FB Myer is having his best season yet, running, blocking, and now recieving.
The list goes on and on.
Despite the horrible injuries, spirits do remain high in the bay area, and the Assassins have vowed to fight to the end, regardless of wins or losses, and St. Louis will have their hands full next week, has it appears, with a 0-4 home record, and a 4-2 road record, that the Assassins actually prefer to play away from the "Black Hole".
