Sources from an organization involved with the talks say that just before the trade deadline Pittsburgh offered Hartford a mid-round draft pick in exchange for MLB Tony Martin, who was at the time hurt for several weeks, gambling on him recovering from his injury. Word out of Hartford is that Martin has fully recovered and shows no signs of being slowed by the injury.

Little Rock is coming up hard against the cap. They only have about $6 million in cap space left for last year to sign their draft picks (2nd, 4th, 6th) and also their many talented free agents-to-be, including: WR Kennedy, CB Love, CB Goodman, WR Schwartz, WR Hathcock, LG Sheffield, OLB Currin, and FS Flaherty. Several of those players want big pay increases, including WR Kennedy who is asking for a deal with a cap number of $5 million next year.

One of those players may be franchised, a couple may be signed before the end of the season (Little Rock has over $3 million in cap space available now), but it is almost inevitable that several of them will hit the FA market or be available for a sign-and-trade.

Timmerman to Montreal?

Rumors have been flying around the league, saying that Montreal is very interested in Houston RB Wilford Timmerman. Montreal is one of the few teams with the cap room currently to add his contract, and though RB Bradford has had a tremendous rookie season, there are some in the Montreal front office that don't think he is the long term solution. Timmerman's huge potential has yet to be realized, so Montreal is still, like everyone, very aware of the fact that Timmerman's contract is ginormous.
