  • He's a kicker

Let me tell you the story of a kicker named Ty Fox.

Summer 2003 - Ty Fox is finally selected in the ImperialFL Allocation Draft by the Little Rock Toads with the 14th pick in the 53rd round. That's the 1,678th overall pick.

He does well enough in the preseason to earn the job as the Toads starting kicker.

Week 1, 2003 - Ty starts his regular season debut very well. He makes an extra point and follows that up with two successful field goals - one a 24-yarder, the other a 47-yarder. But the pressure gets to be a bit too much for the rookie kicker as he shanks a 35-yarder as time expires which would have prevented the game from going into overtime. After losing the coin flip, the Toads quickly get the ball back after a turnover. Following some conservative play-calling, the Toads whacko coach decides to bring on the kid for a 56-yard field goal. He misses short and the Bolts would regain possession of the ball from their own 46 and go on to win the ball game.

Much bitching follows the game, primarily from the Toads GM, Jonathan "Freak on a Leash" Dykes.

Midweek 2, 2003 - Ty is cut and 12-year veteran Jesus Stratton is signed.

Much later in the season the Columbia Fire decide to sign the broken-hearted kicker, who had been working at a pharmacy ran by his uncle in Heber City, Utah since being cut by the "Warts". They had been having kicking problems of their own and decide they'll bring the specialist aboard as one of two kickers they'll bring to their 2004 camp. The Fire don't actually end up signing anyone else - it's Fox's job for the taking

Week 1, 2004 - Ty is named the starting kicker.

He goes on to make 8 of his first 9 field goals and all 15 of his extra point attempts are good. He is named to Hawkster's All-Midseason NC Team. In his first game against Little Rock Ty scores 10 points, going 3 for 3 in field goals.

Week 17, 2004 - Ty doesn't fair as well against his former team the second time. He misses a crucial 4th quarter kick, a 34-yarder that sailed right. The Toads go on to win their first game in history against the Fire by a score of 13-10. It's okay though, because the Fire played almost all of their backups.

Ty goes 24 for 29 (or 83%) in field goals for the season, good enough for 4th place for kickers that attempted more than 20. He would finish tied for 8th with 106 points, three more than Toads kicker Jesus Stratton fared.

Offseason 2005 - Ty begins a vigorous offseason training program. One scout mentions that Ty reminds him of a younger Gary Anderson, one that was in his early 50's during the early 90's.

Week 6, 2005 - In his 3rd and latest game against the Toads Ty becomes the difference-maker. He nails two short field goals and boots a 57-yarder with less than two minutes to go in the game. The field goal puts the Fire up 24-21 over the Warts. They go on to win. His counterpart, Jesus Stratton, has a rough day. Minutes before Ty's game-winning field goal, Jesus missed a 54-yarder. This coming after he botched a 44-yarder in the 1st half.

For his career to date, Ty ranks 8th in field goal percentage for kickers in the IFL with more than 40 attempts with a mark just under 80%. A mark higher than Jesus Stratton's. His 58-yarder which came earlier in the 2005 season ranks as the longest field goal made in 2005 and 2nd all-time.

Right now - Ty Fox is going to Disney Land!!!
