Stallions Rout Favored Phantoms 38-14

We thank you Gerald Plant. We thank you for your unselfish sacrifice; your willingness to be role player while you instructed, admonished, and empowered. We thank you for turning a bright-eyed young man into a receiver.
In case you missed it, that blur you saw on the field this Sunday was none other than Grady “Money” Gomez. He took his first catch 84 yards for a TD and 50 yards of flat out speed before going on to haul in 4 catches for 179 yards (a 44.7 ypc average).
Gomez now sits at 716 yards through 5 weeks of play and if Booker continues to look for the lightning quick acrobat, he’s going to break the team receiving record he sat last season. Booker seems to be on the same juice Gomez is drinking as he’s already thrown for 17 touchdowns, 5 of which he added this past Sunday in dismantling the Phantoms.
Booker fought rain and drops but still managed to erase last week’s 4 interception outing at Vancouver by throwing for 342 yards and 5 scores. He got the ball to six different receivers and completed big play after big play on scores to Edmund “Little Man” Mertz, “Money” and Haught.
“It’s always good to play at home,” said Booker. “We really feed off our fans and that helps us elevate our game. Granted we’re not where we would have liked to be at this point in the season, but we still have a lot of football left to play.” he added.
The oft-maligned defensive unit played good football this week. Yes they only got 2 sacks and an interception but they dominated the Phantoms. After it was all said and done the Red Stampede managed to defend 8 passes, log 6 hurries, force 12 punts and hold the Phantoms to 208 yards. That must be celebrated as we’ve now seen them post back-to-back impressive outings.
The Stallions take a 3-2 start into the bye week and then travel to Newark to face the impressive rookie tailback Alan Crespo. We look forward to seeing if the Stallions can get a road win.
