Despite the 3-1 record, it was obvious to all, that the weakness on this team, was the defense. However, Oakland GM, Jave assures us, the blame is his.
" I was quite happy with the way the defense played last year, and with the nearly non-existent turnover on the team, I was confident that the same general defensive scheme would work even better this year. Well, after winning the first 3 games, I was happy, yet concerned that despite the wins, the defense was really getting mauled. But when you win 8 games in 2 years, and start out 3-0........well, I was reluctant to change anything. And this week once again, we got creamed on defense, yet nearly pulled this one out. However, at the team meeting this week, the defensive unit broke down the entire season thus far, and proved to me that we they would be better off with a complete rehaul of the entire scheme."
And on that note, they have spend the last 3 days locked in a room with defensive coordinator Stanley Moore, creating an entirley new gameplan from scratch. It's a real risk to win 3 out of 4, and make drastic changes to a gameplan, but leave it to Oakland to do something tottally insane, anything it takes to get wins. We will find out how good it works when Oakland travels to Newark Sunday to face the upstart Bulldogs, who have been resting for the last 2 weeks, and will be more then ready for the Assassins.
