Kicker Savage Misses Game Winning Field Goal

In what, no one will argue, was the Game Of The Week, the Oakland Assassins could not stop runningback Dewitt Flynn, who dominated with 182 yards on a staggering 39 rushes. Starting quarterback Harrison Hynes was equally dominating throwing for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns, with 0 picks. The Oakland D line just could not stop anything the Pirates wanted to do, controlling the clock, 37:28-27:09, first downs, 29-22, total plays, 74-51, and racking up 486 yards of offense. It was amazing the Assassins were able to keep the score within striking distance.
Oakland could have put them away with a 48 yard field goal with 8 seconds left, however, kicker Gene Savage sailed it wide right, and that was all the Pirates needed, never giving Oakland a chance, quickly putting the game away with a 31 yard touchdown to Jacobs, and Oakland was left shaking their heads.
Adding insult to injury, starting linebacker Brian Minard was lost for the season with torn quadriceps muscle, and starting LT Gus Falkenberg was lost for 3 weeks with a hyperextended knee.
The good news? There is some. Oakland proved to the league, and to themselves, that they can play with any team in this league, and nearly pulled this one off despite the total domination stastically by the Pirates. The Oakland fans, after waiting 4 weeks to see their team were dissapointed by the outcome, but encouraged by the "overnight" turn around this team has accomplished.

Oakland will attempt to comeback from this loss on the road once again at Newark were they expect a tough battle with the Bulldogs. More to come later this week!

Good write up, and a hell of a game. It looks like we both suffered on the injury front. Must have been bloody.

Yea, it was such a good game, I didn't even mind losing this one. This could be the start of one of the leagues best rivalrys!

As I said last year, I'm glad Oakland is not on my schedule this year! That makes two games this year where Oakland has not played great and they either won, or could have won the game late...

I'm still not sold on how good they actually are this year. The defense has been absolutly horrible thus far, and I been fortunate enough to outscore peps. Also, I have not been hit to hard with injuries. I have very little depth so if starters start to go down..............it will be yet another long year. I think the next 3 games will decide how good I am actually going to be. If I can get 2 out of 3 wins, then I have a good shot at the playoffs.
