Despite the league wide predications that SLC would take care of business at home, It was the Assassins who got the last laugh, winning in a shootout, 35-27.
Oakland ruined, what was otherwise an outstanding performance by the Stallions. Tart was nearly unstoppable again, running for 80 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and "Money" Gomez backed up his reputation with an outstanding 187 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 catches.
Starting QB Booker was nearly flawless throwing for 351 yards and 3 touchdowns with zero picks. One would think looking at those stats that Salt Lake won in a blowout right? Well, it seems Oakland had other ideas.
"SLC played great, however, this is a new year, and a new team. We may not be perfect, but no longer will teams just run us over and walk away laughing. This is our year, we been saying it since this league was drafted. Don't look now, when you see us on your schedule, you know its going to be a war!"
The addition of Kurt Bice was a godsent for the Assassins. No longer are teams able to double Martinez and focus on stopping Connell, this team has to many weapons now to stop them all. This was proven this week as SLC struggled to stop Oakland........at all.
The defense was on top of their game as well registering 5 sacks against one of the best "O" lines in the league. Nelson came on strong with 3 tackles 1 assist and 1.5 sacks. Next up is Houston. While their is no bad blood here, this game will prove if Oakland is for real this year, or just got lucky again? We will see................
