Assassinated

As they did last year, the Stallions begin the season with a bang and come out explosive against divisional upstarts, the Oakland Assassins. However, Oakland was just as explosive and let the Stallions know that they are indeed much improved.
Young Gene Hamilton threw 3 INTS but was otherwise all-world against what was supposed to be an improved defensive unit. With Bice and Martinez as his first and second option he’s in great shape to have a breakout season.
“We knew Oakland was going to eventually put it all together. We were always able to plan effectively for their offense in the past but the acquisition of Kurt Bice at the flanker position forced us to play each of those wide-outs man-up, and we came out a little flat at the corners today”, explained Coach Palmateer.
The Horses defense gave up 462 total yards, allowed 8/9 third down conversions to the Assassins and only forced them to punt ONCE. You can’t win if you can’t get the other team off the field. If the defense performs this poorly all season, the Stallions are an 8-8 or 9-7 team at best. This was clearly evident today as the offensive unit did more than enough to win today.
Booker answered a 1st quarter TD run from Oakland backup runner Gaston Lomeli with a 7-play 80 yard TD drive that saw him hit TE Bracy for a 14 yard score. Hamilton rebutted with more TD tosses including a beautiful 14 yard fade over McNamee to the front corner of the end zone.
Tart got in on the action then and rushed for a score before Gomez got untracked and caught a 12 yard Pass. The offensive units finished with some impressive numbers but at the end of the day Booker’s 351 yards passing (3 touchdowns, no interceptions) and Gomez’s 11 catches (187 yards, 2 touchdowns) weren’t enough to hold off the Assassins.
Hopefully the team can ‘tune up’ and play better on defense next week when they host the Voodoo (Stallions favored by 3).--JS
