  • Vic Carucci's Daily Dose

Well here we are, ready for the 2005 season. Enough of all the chit-chatter, just good ol' fashion football.

    Breaking News
G Jermaine Goodwin was released by the Tulsa Tornados as teams were forced to cut rosters down to the league maximum 53 players. Goodwin faces charges after he was caught in Fresno, CA hotel room with an unspecified amount of cocaine and 3 prostitutes, 1 being a transvestite. There's no doubt about Goodwin's talent, as he was Tulsa's 2nd rnd pick last year. Goodwin's off the field problems, mixed with Tulsa's depth at the guard position, led to his release. A few teams are interested in his services says agent Lonnie Lane. Lane had no comment about the reason's why the 2nd round pick was dropped
In other league news, verbal "pot shots" have been thrown back and forth between SLC and OAK. It appears the PR department in Oakland is trying to raise awareness level. SLC has responded as well. The ImperialFL standards committee are investigating to see if any fines should be levied.

    Here are my preseason predictions
    AFC North Iowa City
In a bit of a shocker, IWC will win this division

    AFC South St.Louis
I don't see any teams touching STL. McMurray will have a big year

    AFC East West Virginia
Hartford will make things close, but WV wins the division again

    AFC West Anchorage
ANC will win with little trouble

    Wild Card teams
Wichita and Hartford will round out the playoff teams in the AFC

    NFC North Madison
Madison will have this division wrapped up in week 14

    NFC South Little Rock
The Toads will narrowly win the division over CBA

    NFC East Vermont
Vermont will actually hold on and win the division this year.

    NFC West Salt Lake City
SLC will win the division in a tough race. This may be the best division in the league. The teams will end up beating eachother

    Wild Card teams
Columbia and Vancouver will round out the playoff teams in the NFC.

    Weekly Picks

I've decided not to do any picks in Week#1 due to the dispairity in the point spreads. I will start picks in week #2.

Vic's Pre-Season Offensive All Pro team

QB-Julian Cartagena. I think we've all forgot how good he is.

RB-James Tart. Tart will help lead SLC deep into the playoffs

FB-Michael Saucedo. Saucedo will be the lead blocker for Beamer, and a great passing target for Chaplin

TE-Quentin Logan. Sepulveda will find Logan early and often. Expect 10+TDs this year

WR-Lenny Romano. That's right! Romano and Stanfield will be hooking up early and often

WR-Ernest Martinez. Martinez will benefit from newly acquired Bice on the other side

C-Wayne Rogers. Rogers will be clearing holes for Connell all season

G-Jason Downer. Beamer is made happy by Downer's terrific play

G-Jacob Pinder. Pinder will help both the pass and running game

T-Irwin Kao. Kao will help catapault rookie Alan Crespo to a 1000yd season

T-Kevin Price. I see big running #'s for Beamer this year!

    P-James Freeman

    K-Paul Pickett

    Until next time

Despite his horrible selection for NFC West, I will forgive him for his intelligent selection at WR and C.

The NC West will be just like the AC East the last two years...

                  2003 IFL AC East Runner-Up - Wildcard 10-6
                  2004 IFL AC East Runner-UP - Wildcard - AC Runner-up 10-5-1
                  2005 3rd Place AC East 6-10 2007 2nd Place AC East 8-8
                  2006 3rd Place AC East 7-9 2008 2nd Place AC East 9-7

No freaking way! The AC South will be much more competitive from top to bottom and may get two teams into the playoffs for the first time. Both Houston and Murfreesboro are very much improved over last year with Houston being a wildcard in the division race.

While being the runner-up two years in a row, it's time for the VooDoo to take the title from STL. The reasons are simple. Major upgrade at the most important position on the team, QB, and a defense that was good last year and just got better with the offseason acquisitions of LDT Dominick Watson from Lansing and SLB Hubert Parker from PIT. Also FS Ronald Sunderland has continued his improvement and will be an All-Pro candidate.

Jermaine Goodwin definitely looks like last year's Steven Hamilton. A guy that probably could've been traded for a mid-round pick.

Yeah, I would have dealt a 5th round pick for him. Especially since I have had terrible luck with my draft picks. I have had maybe three guys in two years inch up, but at least 5-6 go down. :?

I wanted to have him for insurance. He would have been a nice backup, with the benefit of having exclusive negotiating rights in the offseason. He will sign for cheap next year, and will be a starter next year or the year after.
