Oakland ran its preseason record to 3-0 today by grounding the once proud Matadors 17-14. Pounding starting QB David Humphrey into the ground time and time again, he finally relented and was carried off the field in the 2nd quarter with a strained back, and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
After scoring the go ahead touchdown with a mere 1:30 left in the game, the Matadors mounted a furious comeback that ended with 35 seconds left, when Joseph Berlin intercepted Shelter's pass to seal the win.
Oakland racked up 400 total yards to Albuquerque's 254, including running up 71 plays on the Matadors.
The Assassins will attempt a perfect preseason when they travel to Hartford next week for a showdown with the Grizzlies.
