The day began with this storyline: The Stallions finished a win away from going to the Imperial Bowl. Is this the draft that'll put them over the top?
At the end of day one, the question was: Will the tandem of James Herzog and Neil Glaser be the players that put the Stallions over the top?
The selection of Herzog with the 20th pick of the draft was the most exciting moment of the day for the team It energized Stallions fans that were “dying” for the team to address a defense that was one of the worst in the league last season. Herzog is a big physical linebacker who can play the run and the pass and should start immediately.
The trading of next year’s first rounder and this year’s 52nd overall netted them a true Nose Tackle in Washington’s Neil Glaser just 3 picks later.
What did the Stallions accomplish on the first day of the draft?
“A great deal,” coach Palmateer said as he surveyed the landscape of his first two picks. “We got a play-maker in James Herzog and we got a dominant run-stuffer in Neil that can easily push Bryant for the starting position.”
Expectations for Herzog are that he will provide immediate impact on defense. Glaser is expected to unseat incumbent NT Harold Bryant and contribute right away also.
“We wanted to come out of this off-season with a more talented defense, guys who could make plays. We are still looking to get a backup for James Tart and a solid corner to play in our nickel packages,” Schwartz said of his wish list going into day two.
