Stallions Rest, Tart Mends
By Jimmy Somelove
Week 10 and not only are the Stallions alive and in the playoff hunt, they are healthy and on a roll. James Tart tweaked a hamstring in the Stallions win over the Killer Whales but will be ready to start for Montreal. Hare, whose late game INT, sealed the win over Vancouver is recovering from his broken thumb, C Oglesby’s knee is expected to be 100% come game time, and DE Bakke returns to the lineup against Montreal.
Do the Stallions have enough to continue on this roll? Not likely, but if James Tart stays healthy and Booker continues to make the key plays, they can stay competitive and maybe, just maybe get a wildcard spot. Worst case scenario, Pearson is fooled by Booker’s recent play and he puts the offense on his shoulders and the team drops its next three games before Pearson wakes up and remembers Tart is he man.
Why is the offense key? Well the Stallions are soft against the run and the longer the offense can keep the ball, the less time the opponent has to do anything against them.
It should be noted that this is not the same team that turned it over to like a hooker to Vancouver earlier this year, not the same one that laid down to Reno. The Stallions have begun to realize what they do best on offense and defense and play to it.
I look for the Stallions to keep winning the time of possession and the field position battle; stay with the run; keep the offense balanced; and stay away from the turnovers.
Go SLC!!!
