MW:I'd like to welcome everyone here today for this conference. It's truly a sad day for the Newark Bulldogs franchise. These 2 men molded this team into what it is today. Essentially we're losing the heart and soul of the offense and defense. Unfortunately in today's game the salary cap adds another dimension. Hopefully someday we can get players who end up as half as good as these guys are, both on and off of the field.
Chris,
Chris Chaplin: I guess the first thing I want to do is thank the fans for supporting our team and myself personally. We truly have some of the best fans in the league. I enjoyed my time and will miss a lot of friends that I've made here, especially Andrew Robey. We've been fortunate to play both our college careers and pro careers together. We've been playing together for a very long time.
MW: On that note I guess we'll open the floor to questions.
reporter#1: What is the status of the head coaching position?
MW: Actually I'd like to not talk about this today. This is really for Chris and Justin.
reporter#2: Speaking of Justin Jones..........where is he? Is this conference for both players.
MW: Justin had something come up, unexpectedly. He claims that he will make himself available to the media within the next few days.
reporter#3: Chris, what happened to this team? Why couldn't you get into the playoffs.
CC: I really don't have an answer for you. We struggled at different points in the season. It was very difficult to really get any momentum. I found it difficult to hook up with Robey, because we had no one else to get the ball to. The running game was very weak also. The coaching staff never committed to one guy. This really hurt our continuity on offense. Our line still has some holes to fill aswell. You add all that up and couple it with our marginal playcalling, it doesn't add up to much. At the end of the day though, when you're the QB the responsibility is with you to win the game! I did whatever I could to do that, either by running the ball or forcing the ball into coverage. That's why I had so many INT's.
reporter#4: what do you think about Iowa City?
CC: Obviously they've got a great RB in Beamer. They've got some guys that can catch the ball, and some guys up front that are good blockers. Defensively they are solid. When you look at the biggest holes on the team, it is obvious that the QB was a big need. I feel that I can step in and turn this team from where they were to the playoffs next year. It appears to be a big turnaround, but from what I see, it will happen. EVerything around me is better in IWC. This will really help me out, and in turn help out Beamer. I'm very excited about the opportunity to compete in the playoffs. I always felt like, in Newark, we were handcuffed offensivley because of the lack of talent and playcalling. I'm just very excited about the new opportunity.
reporter#2: Have you spoken with Justin Jones since the trade?
CC: Yes I have. He's excited about the change aswell. He was pretty vocal last year. He was frustrated, we all were. He'll bring toughness to the defense. In my opinion, Justin is the best DE in league history. He brings instant credibility.
I actually have to call this PC a little short today. I've got a plane to catch, as I'm going to meet with Roadrash and the rest of the staff in IWC. I appreciate all the support. I hope to have the opportunity to come back and play here sometime. Thank you!
MW: We hope to hold another PC within the next few days to speak about the direction of the Bulldogs. Hopefully by then we'll have a head coach signed. Again, Justin Jones will be available as well. His agent will be getting a hold of the local media outlets. This PC will not be held by this organization.
Thanks for coming
