Vancouver Gets Roughed Up at the Stable

Vancouver may be a more talented group of players but the Stallions were the better team today. On a snowy afternoon in SLC, the Killer Whales rolled into town with the stench of low-tide all over them. The 9-point favored Vancouver looked good early but Salt Lake adjusted to them on defense and stayed with its gameplan on offense.
Leaving it's trademark rushing attack, Vancouver chose to strike the Stallions through the air and while the plan gave way to some big plays through much of the game, it proved to be their undoing as Vancouver QB Dennis Colella was sacked 5 times and picked off for the lone touchdown of the game.
On 2nd and 19 after after #58, Darin Powe sacked Colella for a 9 yard loss, Vancouver chose to pass it . "You really have to question that call", said SLC Defensive Coordinator BJ Burke "as we were able to able to apply pressure on them all day".
With only 2:23 on the clock and leading by 6, Colella dropped back to pass and connected with #57, Morgan Hare who raced 14 yards for the score (the defense has scored 4 TDs on the year) and Raymond gave SLC the lead with a clutch extra point kick.
Patience paid off today as SLC stuck with what works for them--the running game. Tart rushed 28 times for 111 yards (his sixth 100-yard game this year) but fumbled once; Burkhart had the other fumble on the day. Tart adjusted his cold weather gear and got back on track though. Booker was again sharp going 19/26 on his passes and got 122 yards through the air. Gomez made plays when Booker looked for him.
No spectacular plays on offense but plenty of defensive highlights get them the win over the Killer Whales. The Stallions are on a 3-game win streak and headed to a bye week before taking on Montreal (3-5) in The Stable. We'll take that!!!
