No Deuce, No Juice. Demons Claim The NC Championship
The IFL Football Gods giveth and taketh at will. Last week, the daunting Fire fell to the fates and this week, the Stallions fall.
The Stallions magical season come to an end on the road against the Madison Demons in a game that saw them in it up until a non-contact injury to Nigel Booker. Once Nigel went down, the Demons stepped up and showed the understudy Quinn why he’s Booker’s backup. 3 of 10 for 29 yards is all he could muster and the offense came to a screeching halt with him at the helm. One has to believe if Booker remains in this game, the Stallions go on to earn an Imperial Bowl berth. But this was not to be.
The Demons, on the leg of Paul Picket, had a record day kicking the ball and that allowed them to keep it close and win it late. As a result, 16-year veteran Johnnie Loving will play in his first Imperial Bowl in the twilight of his career. This may very well be his last game.
“16 years is a long %#@# time”, exclaimed James Tart at the post-game interview. “He deserves a trip but I really wish we could have delivered our fans a trip to the big one. The best team got it done today---no excuses”, he added. “I wish them the best of luck in representing the NC in the Bowl this year and we look forward to starting the battle to be the best next year”.
Booker was not available for comment as the training staff whisked him away to get his injury checked out but you have to know he’s pretty upset and asking himself “what if?”. We’re doing the same here.—JS
