This game has been around for a long time, but while focus for FOF is the career- and off the field parts of football, Second and Ten focuses more on the on field action. Much less focus on player development etc.

        oh well ...

dang. Would be nice for someone to do something to get Jim doing something other than card games.

          There's always this: http://www.barcodegames.com/

We had a discussion about it 2-3 years ago I think. No idea how it's developed.

I've been curious about Action! PC Football (odd name)

            http://www.dksports.com/football.htm

It looks like they have a new version coming out in early May. I think it's strengths have been game planning/play design. But it looks like they are trying to improve multiplayer/career-type stuff.

ACtion! PC Football also focuses on replays.. bottom line is that there are no good replacements for FOF when it comes to the GMing aspect of things. FOF is hands down the best "Front office" simulator when it comes to Football, not matter how poor/great one thinks it is.
