Ok. Im 45 and pretty much out of shape. I sat on my butt the last few months. Some personal issues. So I kind of shut down.
So I weighed myself Monday. And I weighed 218 lbs. I have never weighed that much. I was 165 when I graduated HS. I grew a couple inches and filled out some and settled in at 180 Lbs. Then the metabolism slowed and the eating didnt. So last Spring I cut down on portion sizes after finding myself at 210lbs. I got down to 199. Which I was happy with. Was shooting for 190.
So this 218 lb shocker woke me up. Time to cut down on the crappy stuff (Been eating lots of M&Ms lately) and start exercising.
A friend had given me a copy of P90X last year. But it sat unused. So I broke it out.
    HOLY CRAP!
Started with Back and arms and abs yesterday. Wow, I was sore today. Then this after noon was Plyometrics. Um, this kicked my butt. I could barely walk when i was done. Im still sore. My legs feel like sore bags of jello.
Im really not looking forward to tomorrow. Im going to be sore.
But I did weigh myself today before the plyo workout and I had lost a pound. SO Im going in the right direction. If I survive. 190 lbs is my goal.

Good luck, my friend. Every time I have tried to get back on track, my perpetual lower back issues rear their ugly head :-/ The simple solution would just be to eat a LOT less... which of course I dont do.

    Aging sucks. Bigtime :-/

Eating right is a huge portion. Try to stick with under 1,800 calories a day. Use myfitnesspal app to track it if you need to. Input everything you eat so you're held accountable.

Of course working out with it will speed up weight loss, so you should be 190 in no time.

I was in a similar situation as you. I was super skinny at HS graduation, literally 140 wet. Just this past summer I clocked in at around 205 so I knew I had to shape up. I didn't want to go to 140 again so I set a goal of 180-185 and was already 190 after a month of a steady diet and some relatively light cardio / weight training.

You don't need to starve yourself, just cut back on the junk food. It's incredible how bad some are. Regular candy bars (or reg size bags of M&M's) top 200 calories with ease, and those are nice and lousy empty calories with almost no nutritional gains.

Don't get me wrong, you don't need to deprive yourself of treats, but when you're snacking on junk food, just be aware how much and how often.

Also, one of the biggest hidden calorie things are drinks. If you're not drinking water or 0 calorie flavored water, be careful because that adds up quick. Coffee with cream, soda, juice, etc

My wife’s company pays for them to do Weightwatchers. They changed the program and it is really pretty easy to do and it works very well. I found I could eat and drink pretty much what I usually eat but in smaller portions. It also changes how you look at food if you get used to it. I lost 40 pounds on it and still do it but I don’t really call it a diet but just how I eat normal now.

FYI this is not the old Weightwatchers program your mom did! I got several men at my job to do it and all have lost weight, and no one really considers it a diet.

If you're just going for weightloss it's hard to beat just joining an ol' fashioned boxing joint. I've always been thin but a kid I trained with back in the day lost Subway Jared type of weight in months just training and giving up the junk food.
