  • /rant on>>NBA nixes Chris Paul trade

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baske...che/51763226/1

You know what? GOOD. It's getting ridiculous. Every time the Lakers start to slip, they just make a trade and get the BEST players in the NBA to play for them. Anyone actually looked at the all time Championship list?

    Code:
Teams Win Loss Total Year(s) won Year(s) lost
    Boston Celtics 17 4 21 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008 1958, 1985, 1987, 2010
    Minneapolis / Los Angeles Lakers 16 15 31 1949, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1972, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, 2010 1959, 1962, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1983, 1984, 1989, 1991, 2004, 2008
    Chicago Bulls 6 0 6 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998
    San Antonio Spurs 4 0 4 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007
    Syracuse Nationals / Philadelphia 76ers 3 6 9 1955, 1967, 1983 1950, 1954, 1977, 1980, 1982, 2001
    Fort Wayne / Detroit Pistons 3 4 7 1989, 1990, 2004 1955, 1956, 1988, 2005
    Philadelphia / San Francisco / Golden State Warriors 3 3 6 1947, 1956, 1975 1948, 1964, 1967
    New York Knicks 2 6 8 1970, 1973 1951, 1952, 1953, 1972, 1994, 1999
    Houston Rockets 2 2 4 1994, 1995 1981, 1986
    Baltimore / Washington Bullets (now Washington Wizards) 1 3 4 1978 1971, 1975, 1979
    St. Louis Hawks (now Atlanta Hawks) 1 3 4 1958 1957, 1960, 1961
    Portland Trail Blazers 1 2 3 1977 1990, 1992
    Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) 1 2 3 1979 1978, 1996
    Dallas Mavericks 1 1 2 2011 2006
    Miami Heat 1 1 2 2006 2011
    Milwaukee Bucks 1 1 2 1971 1974
    Rochester Royals (now Sacramento Kings) 1 0 1 1951
    Baltimore Bullets (folded in 1954)[a] 1 0 1 1948
    New Jersey Nets 0 2 2 2002, 2003
    Orlando Magic 0 2 2 1995, 2009
    Phoenix Suns 0 2 2 1976, 1993
    Utah Jazz 0 2 2 1997, 1998
    Cleveland Cavaliers 0 1 1 2007
    Indiana Pacers 0 1 1 2000
    Chicago Stags (folded in 1950) 0 1 1 1947
    Washington Capitols (folded in 1951) 0 1 1 194
Thats right, the Lakers have been in a STAGGERING 31 NBA finals since the league was founded. They have been winners of 16 Championships, including 7 of the last 10. Aside from the Celtics, who have been nearly irrelevant since Bird left, the next closest team has been the Bulls, with a mere 6 Championships. Why even bother watching? It's about time someone said enough is enough.

Basketball is a young person's sport that lacks any depth at all. For all the coaches talk it's a player's game that can be controlled by a single player.

L.A. is a young person's city that lacks much intellectual depth and has a "commodity" mentality. The NBA is perfect for that city.

I personally think it's exactly why the NFL never works in L.A.

NFL = people coming together to accomplish a group goal.
NBA = I'll walk in and grab what idolatry I can while it's there for the taking, even crying for the attention of who "gets the last shot" on my own team.

Yea you have a good point about why LA is so successful. These young stars go to LA because if they are great players, they can become the kings of a town full of super celebrities.

It's almost no different in baseball. A guy like Pujols doesn't need an MVP QB throwing him brilliant throws to shine. He's going to put up his .300+ avg and be the king of the town wherever he goes. That's why a lot of people choose NYY, even when similar contracts are offered. In the summertime, NY is the place to be, and in the winter, you want to shine in LA.. assuming you're the type who wants to be the most popular kid in the room at all times.

As far as the trade, I don't agree on blocking it. Paul is going to be a FA next year, and in the original deal, they were set to make a decent amount for a guy like that. It's not like they got robbed by any means.

The owners are just whiny because they've been letting the inmates run the asylum for awhile now, and it's biting them in the ass. I mean Howard is running around chatting with teams about a trade? Seriously? Do any other leagues allow players to arrange their own trades?

"Orlando Surratt: Hi, just to let you know, I have arranged a trade to get me out of Houston and I will be going to West Virginia to be closer to home and in exchange I got you Deron Markel and a 3rd round pick. Thanks, bro!"

Screw the NBA. I was happy when it was in lockout, and hoping the season would be canceled
