  • Mac OS/MySQL knowledge anyone?

I'm trying to get my Mac set-up for a development studio and can't get MySQL started. It's installed but not started.

    Anyone know about this stuff?

I got a 2006 Intel based iMac with Snow Leopard and the default Apache/PHP going. Downloaded the 64 bit 10.6 Mac OS MySQL and installed MySQL, startup, preferences pane (in that order I believe).

Did you install MAMP? Easiest way to get a development environment set up.

Clarification: MAMP is an all-in-one package for this specific purpose, installing Apache and mySQL and making it easily configurable with a front end. There are similar packages for Windows (WAMP) and Linux (LAMP)..

Thanks, Coder. I was about to do MAMP when I found out that Apache and PHP were already installed with the Snow Leopard OS. I have MySQL installed now: I needed the 32 bit version. I haven't successfully created a DB yet though. That's for tomorrow.

Did not think about that.. I installed MAMP for the simple reason that it made things easier on me . All configurations made through the same menu etc, and phpmyAdmin already installed.

Any knowledge of setting the MySQL/phpMyAdmin username/pass combo? I have MySQL installed and started - can't stop/restart via preference pane for some reason - and phpMyAdmin installed BUT can't utilize phpMyAdmin since I don't know the user/pass.

I've done enough research now where this stuff isn't as daunting as it once seemed though. It'll be nice if I can get familiarized with it all.
