Madden 2010 on XBox360

Thoughts on the game? I havent bought Madden in 5 years, but i thought this one looks great. However i just got the new fight night and love it..play it so much i dont see madden (or anything else) making it into my ps3 anytime soon.

I had past versions of Fight Night and 100% loved it out of the box and then was 100% done with it (except for 2 player) after less than a week, maybe even like 3 days, due to lack of any real depth. If I remember correctly once you learned how to block and then powerpunch during the "post-blocked-punch-delay" you could easily beat ever fighter.

I should probably mention that i haven't played a boxing game since the original Knockout Kings, so maybe I am just overdue for playing the shit out of one. Also, I am a casual boxing fan, but in no way hardcore. All that being said, I love the game.

The Legacy mode (where I spend all of my time) is good, you start at #50 and work your way up. After fooling around with a couple of different guys i settled on a Middleweight and worked my way up to #16 currently with an 18-1 record. There are different tiers (prospect, contender, champion, etc.) and you'll face different levels of competition as you work your way up. When i moved up to contender I lost my first fight because I wasnt able to counterpunch fast enough and he was good defender and kept me on the outside with his jab. So building on what you were asking, yeah I learned how to beat guys and up to that point i was just mowing guys down KO after KO, but once the level of competition increased i had to adjust or lose. This was on default difficulty OOB no slider adjustments. You could up the difficulty it gets too hard i suppose, or set sliders to your liking. The one complaint you can make is that it may not be 'sim' enough for some..most rounds are 'action' rounds.

If you dont like the actual boxing, then you're gonna get bored of it - same as any other sports game. But I have had it for a couple weeks now, and I can say its quite addicting. Ive played recent iterations of NCAA, MLB the show, and tiger woods, and given up on madden. To me, this blows them away.

FWIW, after i lost i went back and trained up my speed and punch accuracy and we had a PPV rematch. Quicker and more accurate with my punches I KO'd the guy in the 8th round. I decided to have a final rubber match and since it was the third time I played the guy like a fiddle, and KO'd him in the 9th. Knocked him down 4 times, 3 in the 9th and final round. The fight was about to be stopped anyway as his left eye was swelling up as I concentrated on it from the opening bell. Love this game

I should also mention as far as online goes, its basically a punch spam fest - like street fighter with gloves. But EA released a patch yesterday that was supposed to make punch spamming really mess up fighter stamina.

I was thinking of gettin the new one, but never liked the new punching system. I can't do it.......i'm a button masher....too old I guess.

i've only played one game in Madden, and it seemed good. I have 2008, and just didn't like it. Plus they changed up the controls when they made teh game for PS3. Which I just changed to what I was used to...........BUT in NCAA i cannot use "X" to sprint because it's not a changeable option. ugh!! I AM too old
