  • SP the "MP" way....

Everyone here knows that I've put out plenty of guides to try to explicitly state certain things about FOF to help the league.

Well, today I simply explain the only way that I can play SP without having the best team in the league in a matter of 1 FA period and some trades. I don't specifically know what anyone will get out of this but I truly believe that if you're having MP trouble then this exercise will definitely help you out!

Start a new game using the complete draft method and make sure coach firings are turned "off". Take the absolute worst player at every position until you've filled your roster appropriately.

Forever in this SP game you will only use FA to fill your roster and you will do so by taking the worst player available at the position(s) of need every time.

Sim the 1st season. You will go 0-16 and have the 1st pick in the draft.

Now simply draft your way to a Championship restricting yourself to FA only in the way described above.

I believe without trading back in the draft it will probably be impossible to ever build a Championship team, demonstrating to you just how many holes you create when you focus on the career players instead of filling your roster.

You will also get a feel for which positions, based on career length, are better to draft first. Draft a perfect 100 RB with that original #1 pick and watch his career be over before you know it.

Oh, for trades involving a player I go with either a blanket "no trades" rule or 1 trade per season. Trades of draft picks for draft picks are unlimited and are your biggest weapon.

I think this might be a good time to point out why SP FOF, in its default form, is in no way comparable to MP. Every SP video game made is designed with the intent of bringing out your pleasurable brain chemicals in exchange for $$$. If SP was challenging then most people would give up and not buy the next version of FOF. So FOF is designed to be beaten easily... that means your "opponent" is actually tanking every game and every exchange. The SP "opponent" poses no more challenge than a pad of paper does to someone trying to write a note: They're both actually doing their intended purpose.

Now think of MP where there are 31 actual opponents as opposed to 1 giving the game away for 31 teams and you see why, though both are played on the FOF platform, they have nothing to do with each other and MP brings about a certain shock value to a number of players when they first sign-up.

I've never played by that rule. Not sure it would matter from what I've read of the results.
