  • Any "top shelf" potential GMs around???

    by Spark Wonup
    Lawrence Sun Times

Rumor around "Broke as Fuck Field" as of late is that owner/GM Jester Blaze is in jeopardy of becoming the Al Davis of the IFL and wants to get out before so but fears handing over what he feels is the top team (current strength and future draft picks combined) in the top league to just anyone.

All of us long-time Phantom Phans have seen this team "battle like a mofo" season in and season out since the league's inception and bury the thought of Mr. Blaze stepping down but realize time must always march on and need the hope of the team being handed off to good hands.

Though I was personally denied the chance when I immediately opted to offer my expertise, I am still committed to finding the best next Phantoms owner and will be conduncting potential long-term replacements this October at the South Lawrence common/stadium on Rt. 114.

Alas, the time is nearing. I'm torn right now between leaving with all the future picks I have stored up (and therefore never realizing the bounty that I've stockpiled) or waiting until my team starts to decline and then potentially be thought of as someone who couldn't ride the losing seasons out.

Give me the picks and that eliminates half the problem.

              oh sure...

              1. get a good team in the inaugural draft
              2. ride team to much success for the first 10-15 years of the league
              3. as the main players you got start to decline and/or retire, you start to see the writing on the wall that some lean years are ahead
              4. rather than have to endure being stuck with a bad team like some owners were, like me, for example, you decide it's not worth it to try to build up a team and want to leave

typical. you should leave now with your head held high, cuz once you're team goes downhill - which is has, since starting a season 0-7 isn't a sign of good things to come - and you leave you'll be known as the guy who left the league with your tail between your legs. have some dignity.

Have you seen the draft picks I have stored up, HA? While you're taking best player available since you have so many needs I've been taking best player available because I can usually only draft back-ups to my already full squad. I've also got a massive rebuild going on... but I'm doing it while still competing.

I actually like team building more than anything and have partially regretted putting Lawrence in the game when we started because if I hadn't done so I'd have left the Phantoms long ago for one of the worst teams when they were open. And I'd have done it my way and traded down no matter what the draft board looked like so that I could have a team in a few seasons instead of a couple shiny new players who'd end up half way through their careers before seeing any significant victories.

                  HA was a classic!

Self-contradicting and ping-pong ball-ish in his way of logic... but classic nontheless!
