  • Favre - Jets

So this is too big and we've got too many National Football Conference Norris Division fans to not have a thread here in IFL land.

My take: As much as I have to go against Favre because of the navy blue and orange I bleed I can't make sense of an organization going to their conference final and then not accepting their HOF QB back for the next season.

From what I gather they don't like that he changed his mind and they made a few draft picks or something that totally changed the team's direction.

I'm Ted Thompson (?) and Favre carjacks my wife I'll still take him back for another run.

I think it's gonna even bug me to see him in a Jets uni. I remember being crushed as a kid when Walter ended his career on the Redskins sideline during the 4th of a playoff game. Now I'm grateful he retired a Bear.

I can't believe the lack of retiring your own in the NFL. I think players such as Brady and Peyton should start putting "I'll stay with the team as long as I please" clauses into their contracts.

So who's my devil's advocate here to take the side of the Packers?

And what does Cringer think of all this?

i'm not happy to see Favre leave green bay. IMO, he's a hard guy not to like and i think the Packers should've done whatever it took to keep him there.

on that note, being a Bills fan, I'm not happy to be seeing this guy 2 times per year.

Jets will be lucky to get a Wild Card with Favre. Lot of good teams in that conference. NE, INDY, SD, JAX, PITT, and Cleveland. I don't think the Jets have enough to beat out them teams.

I'm a Jets fan, and a little bit concerned about this move. A lot of fans seem to think football is like Madden.. you plug in a '95' QB and BAM, you win more games.

Chemistry, new offense, playbook, limited time, etc etc make me think there's gonna be a rude awakening.

Jester, I have jumped back and forth a little as far as sides of this thing, but never really taking up one over the other in full force.

I understand the Packer's being ticked off when it seems like they would have taken him back in late May months after he retired, only to have him come out a month later and say he wants to play. They worked towards something all offseason though and Favre kind of threw a monkey wrench into that. Favre handled the whole thing piss poor in several ways IMO. But......

I wanted the Packers to early on say that they would welcome him back to compete for the starting job, knowing he would win it. They eventually did that, but it was too late then and the stupid media war had killed it. I hated Thompson early on in his time in Green Bay, and have learned to like him because he seems to be a damn good GM. This has me not liking him much again though, because I am convinced he is the one guy who Favre holds a grudge against and that killed him coming back to the team. Thompson acted like an ass. The media war on both sides was crap.

Overall, the whole thing is kind of sad. It just ended badly and I am a little disappointed in both sides. I still think Favre should be starting in Green Bay. In fact I hope once he REALLY retires, that he never steps foot in Green Bay until Thompson is gone, just to be a dick to the guy. The Jets was the best place for him to go from a Green Bay stance, and the trade was done well (see, I still have to respect what Thompson does outside of being an ass and I hate that). I hope Favre does great in NY, and hopefully Rodgers does well. I like Rodgers a lot and won't be too hard on the guy even if he fails, but it is going to be hard on him I think even he is does above average.

Farve retired, the Packers geared everything towards Rodgers succeeding. They went on without, but asked him back late. He didnt want to do it. Then a couple months later, well into the Rodgers era, he decides he wants to play again.
Bad on you Farve. You kicked the organization that helped make you what you are, in the nuts.
I blame Farve for the whole fiasco. He did something new everyday to stir it up and egg on the media. Selfish is what he is.
I lost a lot of respect for him after this episode.

Of course this is the same guy who laid down, so an opponent could break a record. I guess he lacks character.

Farve has the same agent as Steve McNair - Bus Cook. McNairs exit from Tennessee was quite similar to Farves exit from G.B.

I blame both situations totally on Bus Cook, so ultimatly on the players as Bus was only doing their dirty work.

You must not have high hopes for Aaron Rodger's "career", eh?

I just looked at the Jets schedule and its rather easy. They might get in after all as a Wild Card.

Outside of NE, SD and Indy, I don't think any team in the conference is heads and tails above anyone else. Someones gonna win the North but I think the wildcards will be up for grabs.
