  • MLB 08: The Show

So I broke down and sold my 360 to buy a PS3 a few weeks ago, especially for the regionfree games.. this means I can now import baseball-games from the States, which I couldn't do for the 360 (Baseball-games are not released in Europe).

I ordered MLB 08: The Show which I had been reading a lot about before getting the PS3, and I'm sold.. I just love the RTTS-mode and having a blast.

However, having no experience with Baseball-games, I'm struggling with the batting. I simply cannot anticipate which pitch is coming etc, even in rookie mode.

The Guess Pitch mode is wonderful for me, but I'm still having trouble hitting mostly flyballs when I need a grounder to "just get on base", and I'm also struggling with getting VERY few walks (I think I had 2 walks in 50 games at some point).

Do any of you guys have any hints? Do you even play this game? In the guess pitch mode, I can see the pitcher's available pitches, and I can also see a small "energy"-like bar underneath each pitch. I can't find any description of this in the manual, but do you know what that indicates? Likelyhood of that particular pitch being used or what?

    Grateful for any helpzors..

Hey dog im not gonna leave you hanging. I've been wanting to get '08, I was champ back in the day. Probably the bars are for the pitch. Certain pictures have better sliders, or nuckleballs. The main throw in the mlb is the slider and fast ball. If they got three then they're special. Pedro has no heat anymore but he can still throw the breaking shit....

I just picked this up for the PS3. I downloaded the demo and really liked it. I couldn't hit worth shit in the demo. Any luck with that Coder? Not sure when I'm going to get to this game, as I'm into GTA right now.

I have exclusively played the Road to the Show mode, and to make it even easier I've been playing in "Rookie"-mode where I get a strikezone marker on the screen, as well at the chance to guess the pitch.

Holding down the R2, if I remember correctly, and pressing one of the potential pitches will give you an advantage of knowing where in the strikezone the ball will arrive if you guess the pitch type correctly.

Without this I would be at a loss.. I totally suck at determining what's being hauled at me once the pitch leaves the pitcher's hand.
