  • Eh.. computer help?

I recently set up my old computer (by old I mean the one I had been using prior to these last couple of months). I took the primary hard drive out of the old computer and had been using it in the computer that I have been using (as a slave).

Anyways, things don't seem quite right. It is hanging when I use Windows Explorer and now I noticed that it hangs when I open up the Recycle Bin. I have to ctrl-alt-delete to close the unresponsive windows.

Anyone have any clue as to what is going on? Never had these things happen before. Maybe I should also mention that after I put the "agile" hard drive back into my old computer I accidentally tipped the stack over while Windows was running (was trying to put the cover on). The thing shut off when this happened, but it started up okay when I try to turn it back on.

    ??? puzzler.

I take it that you did NOT reformat this drive and was just making it easier to move the data to your new computer. My suggestion would be to take a ghost image of the drive "as is" reformat that puppy and drop the image back onto it.

IF there was any damage to the drive it would show up in the format, skipping the damaged bits, and then the ghost image could go back on.

Would be an even better plan if you had a pre-tipped stack ghost image.

No matter what I would get any critical IFL data off that puppy before the blue smoke gets out.

Thanks for the response, Kobeck. I have no idea how to take a ghost image of a drive, but I'm sure I can find out.

FYI I did a chkdsk and it says there is problems with the file system. I'm not sure if they are getting fixed because every time I run chkdsk with the f parameter (to fix the problems) it says the drive is in use (duh) and asks if I'd like to run chkdsk on a restart. So I do that, but I don't see whether or not it's trying to fix anything.
