  • Computer Help Needed, Monitor Or Video Card :(

Im getting these weird white boxes in certain parts of my screen at certain times and it's got me mega worried. Wondering if anyone knows just by looking whats going on.

    My normal desktop, looks fine.

Here, ive got a folder open, and you can see at the top of the toolbar the white pixels.

Another folder open, a more pronounced cluster of discolored boxes.

I have a picture open, nothing looks askew

A pic of that same picture pasted in my paint program, again, looks fine.

Logging on to my FTP to upload the pictures, again the boxes appear.

A screenshot of me on the site, again everything looks fine.

You should ask this at FOFC, brother. My gut tells me that the monitor couldn't cause something like that with the placement of the discoloration and all.

I would agree with this. It could be the video card, it could also be driver issues, or maybe even something funky happening with windows itself. I'd be shocked if it were monitor issues

Monitor issues wouldn't show up on a screenshot.. other than that.. I'm not sure.. sounds more like a Windows-issue than a graphics-card issue as well.

If I minimize and bring the folder(s) back up it dissapears. But it's starting to get worse, happening to almost every top of every toolbar, only on the blue parts. Weird. I guess i'm happy that it's not the monitor as I didnt want to have to replace that but now im totaly lost as to how to diagnose.

And Jeff, dont you think if I posted this at FOFC that i might be giving a big clue as to who i am :? :?

            I suppose that's true, brother.

If you move the torrent shit window, does the white dots follow it, or disappear?

If i move it it stays, but if something else pops up, putting it in the background and greying it, when i bring it back to the top, it's gone. And it's not always white, sometimes it's dark blue.

It is a rendering issue. This could be caused by a defective video card, but more than likely it is a driver issue.

If you have the most recent driver, roll back to a previous version to see if it clears it up.

If you don't ahve the most reccent version, update.

But stay away from betas, unless you like life on the edge.

Then he needs to upgrade his cooling fan, or reduce the clock speed

So far, so good. Just out of curiosity, what makes something like that suddenly start happening?

Ha, showed you, as soon as I figured out what video card I had it was easy as pie. (It took me a good 5 minutes to figure that out though).

Ummm, you noticied it for the first time. . . then it began driving you nuts because you looked for it everytime you opened a window. . .

Could have been a windows patch, or program glitch that started it. . or head trauma will do it as well. . . . Had any cuncussions lately?
