In case you haven't heard yet, Grey Dog Software released a beta demo for Bowl Bound College Football yesterday. That got Suicane and I to talking about a possible MP league. At this point the kickoff of such a league would be quite a ways off IMO, so don't get your underoos in a bunch quite yet. I only started this topic to get some discussion/feedback on the whole deal. Here are the pertinent things to me:
BBCF vs. TCY2
-Of course, we don't even know if such a thing as TCY2 will ever exist; though it is very likely it will. The downside to having a BBCF league instead of a TCY one would be that it couldn't be a "feeder" league to the ImperialFL. Perhaps that would be a good thing though, no? Do we really want to have that large of an impact on the amateur players that are entering our FOF league?
If TCY2 was released before MP BBCF is stable, then I think we'd have to give serious consideration to using that game for our league. If not, there's really no use in waiting for it as everyone has already been left in the dark by Solecismic long enough. This would be a direct consequence of Jim's "announce a game when it is released" philosophy.
Start Date
-BBCF, in beta, seems to have a good number of bugs. And that is to be expected. I've also read that the multiplayer aspect of the game is still being tested (MP is disabled in the demo). How far things have come along, I'm not so sure. Even if it was "ready" at this point, I think starting a league up before at least 2 patches were released would be jumping the gun. It would probably be wise to sit back and watch how a couple of other leagues start out, because that is when the most bugs will be pointed out probably.
League Setup/Number of Teams
-I'd like to keep this an in-house league. Meaning you've got to be in the IFL, on the waiting list, or very close to someone in the league (ie Suicane's grammy is definitely welcome). I also think that we should keep human owners in 2-3 conferences and probably bigger ones like the Big Ten or SEC, so we're all on the same level. If things are spread out too much, gameplay issues could take effect. Especially if things are still being patched. What fun is it when you're in a conference with all computer-ran teams anyways?
There are some other things to talk about as well (bowls/playoffs) and we've got plenty of time to discuss them. Try the demo, posts bugs and suggestions on their boards, and share any ideas for this league right motherloving here.
All is well. 8)
PS - If anyone starts trying to claim an individual team for themself at this point, I will personally find them and beat them with a frying pan.
