My fucking TV just broke

I hate electronics this week... first my bedroom DVD broke down (can't find any discs I put in), then my bluetooth headset for the cellphone broke, and today.. to top things off, my main TV, a 32" widescreen TV I bought almost 3 years ago went all hippie on me..



While the bugger's still got 2 years left on a 5-year extra warranty I was wise to pay for when I bought it, the whole thing is still a pain.. Now I'll have to either have a TV-repairman here (preferrably) or they'll have to come get it (which I'd hate).

I think I know what the problem is, a PTC-resistor broke (not sure of the translation).. it's a $10 item, but I'm sure the repairman will charge plentiful..

My 9 year old 27", 500lb TV is on the fritz. .Don't think it will last another 3-4 months. I was going to buy a new Tube TV. . . until I saw an HDTV next to it. Then I realized I don't have a way of transporting said TV to my house. My car really doesn't have a trunk. And since I have no friends, I would have to call my soon to be ex-wife, who would see how much I am spending on a TV, and probly go get a lawyer to get more money, or my TV out of me.

I live in Colorado Springs. . I hate to look like a another fuckin yuppie. . .I used to work at Best Buy, have guys pull up in a Ford F350 made out of gold. Buy a 2000" TV that weighs 4 Tons. . and yell at me and the security gaurd for almost tipping it while they talk on the cell phone.

Actually, I am going to get it at the BX, and they don't deliver. I don't want to pay taxes on a $1400 anything.

Too funny. I used to work in the warehouse at best buy loading shit in people's vehicles too. My favorite was taking huge TVs out of the boxes and loading them in the tiny ass cars.

the BX is a strange world. Items unavailable anywhere else live and thrive in the BX. I bought a pair of Nike Air Jordans in 84' anyhow 20 years later I sold them to some collector for $60, 3x what I paid for them. Anyhow the dude said the color combo was very rare and that he would be selling them in Japan for about $500. He said the only place those colors were sold were in Asia.

Course it could be different now as I was in the service so long ago, but I always thought of the BX as a wierd place to shop. Brands I had never heard of - at that time I had not been overseas any - at prices hard to ignore.


Good luck with the new TV. I'm still waiting for digital broadcasts till I upgrade my 53" rear screen XBR. I am willing to bet that I will be dead and buried before I need to upgrade. Already delayed till 2009. Always seems to be 5 years away - lol

Update:

Since I bought one of those "silly-stupid" insurances I figured I'd be pretty safe..

I was wrong..

Got a call from a repairshop today... without having actually looked at the TV, but only based on my description they figure that the picture tube is broken.. and it costs about US$ 1500 to fix.. i.e. more than I paid for the TV.. in which case the insurance doesn't cover repairs..

So I look at my insurance letter.. good enough.. they say that if the repair-costs are higher than what the TV was bought for, they give me money instead.. based on teh TVs value.. where they simply reduce the price of the TV by 10% for each year since it was bought..

Well I paid about $1300 for the TV 2 years ago.. in my book that's $1300 - 20%..

In their book, it's "what does the TV cost in a store today?"-20%..

I bought my TV before the rush of LCD and Plasma... and it's a rather big TV.. you can probably buy a TV such as mine for $600-$700 today..

That means... $600-20%..

That's one hell of a difference compared to $1300-20%..
