We asked Carolina GM Argot is thoughts on what Carolina would do at 1.12. Here's what we asked him.
You guys are in need of some help at WR so is Penny on the short list? Could you see Carolina passing on a WR if there's a decent one available? Here's his response
"It's no surprise that Carolina needs some receivers. There are a couple of WR's that we have targeted. Carolina usually looks for best player available as long as its at a position of need. Penny as the top rated WR in the draft is a good possibility, as would be TE Betrozoff if Wilburn is gone. Carolina has focused on defense for the past couple of years. Carolina loves defense so you never know if they totally disregard the receivers and take a slipping linebacker or keep building the secondary."
I think Penny's 40 time will keep him outside the top 10 so landing in Carolina seems like a real possiblility.

We have an image of Montreal GM Chris Rex on draft day last year. This guys is committed to making deals. I asked him about 1.15 and what the orginization might do when they're on the clock.
You're 2nd 1st round pick falls in the middle of the 1st. Could you see yourself gambling on one of the QBs? I like the look of 3rd year DB Durkins but is he a starter in your mind? It's a deep CB class so could you see yourself getting one here in the middle of the 1st?
Here's what Chris Rex had to say "Very tough call. I honestly won't know until that pick rolls around. Either way I will probably look to trade... it's just in my nature. But If I don't find suitable value, both approaches have merit"

We've got comments from Little Rock GM zbuckley on what to expect from picks 1.18 and 1.21
You have a very yonung roster but not many holes to fill. What would you say LR's weaknesses are? Any positions you're making a priority to upgrade? "In the first 3 rounds we're picking a CB and LB for sure. Fortunately both position are pretty deep so we're not going to reach if we don't think the player is worth the spot."
Well if Little Rocks grabs LB Scott Murray at 1.5 it makes sense that they'd be looking at CB in the middle of the 1st.

This is a great read - like Kobeck I'm jealous now that I don't have a first rounder. Maybe Jay can mock all the way thru the 2nd round?

We did get a chace to talk with Dakota George about what to expect from Dakota in the 1st round.
He said "Not going to give too much away but we could use upgrades on both sides of the ball. Our D Line could use an upgrade. Our QB could use some more weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Could use a new water boy. We made some major signings in the secondary in recent times. We have also drafted there recently. I think there would have to be a Revis out there for us to go DB."
It's difficult to say if Dakota's scouting dept. views CB Kyle Lindsay as a can't miss prospect. There's no way CB Porter falls so it will be interesting to see what Dakota does.

I was just kidding. I definitely DON'T like the projection that Carolina will have their pick of the best WRsOriginally posted by Jay Glazer View PostWe'll see............. I've got to finish the 1st round first though

Here's the question I asked Boss about Madison's upcoming pick. You don't have a ton of talent at QB and WR. With this class not being very good at either position will that effect your strategy? You have a pretty solid roster. Other than QB and WR do you see any other holes you'd like to fill with 1.20?
Here's his response "We have a gaping hole at SS we need to fill somehow with the abrupt retirement of Tommy Alexander this offseason. We don't see many options available unless we move up. If that doesn't pan out we may just go BPA where we pick. We would also like to add a TE too but would have to move up also. It is looking like BPA at this point."
No question Adam Shelton would be a great SS but he'll go long before 1.20. There's talent in this years TE class and Betrozoff seems like a real possibility.

We've also got comment from Texas GM TimG
After last season's success you guys must be excited for the offseason. You have lots of talent on the offensive side of the ball but could use help on the defensive side. This draft class is probably exactly what you hoped for.
Where do you see the holes on the roster and how will that effect your decision at 1.22?
Next year how will you take advantage of your TE's? Will you move one during the offseason?
"With last years success comes a late pick so I don't expect a game-changing player but my O-line could use some help and a DE would be a possibility. I won't be moving the TE. QB Lester has 10 formations of witch 4 are TE pairs so I'm thinking that we can use two at this point."
Looks like trench picks for Texas this year.

We've got a chance to get comments from double duty commish / Newark GM (how does this guy handle both jobs?)
Initially I thought a WR would be a no brainer but Matt wanted to say best player available generally is the trump card. Here's his comments "We’re in a bit of a quandary right now. picking in the middle of the 1st round doesn’t give us the top selections but allows us to maybe pick over looked players or positions. We’re hoping to get a contributing member to our team for the next 12 years. We’re thinking BPA at this point, but if there’s a sexy player out there, we might just go after him. We need to inject some youth to our offensive skill positions and our secondary is not in a good place right now."

Here's 4 more picks i'm updating this morning
1.13
Vermont is pretty solid across all defensive position so there's no major need. They don't have a TE under contract so surely that will be an area of focus during the draft. I don't see an offensive skill player worth a pick here so Vermont grabs the 350 beast of a right tackle Pelissier.
The Pick: Vermont selects T Albert Pelissier Arizona State
Pelissier is a nice T prospect. Solid combines and low volatility make it easy to pull the trigger on him.
1.14
Iowa City needs a youth movement in the secondary. I could also see DE Fulcher going here as a BPA pick even though DE isn't a major need for the Snipe Hunters. I think Kyle Lindsay is the player that will go here. He'll be an instant starter plus he's got elite kick return ability.
The Pick: Iowa City selects CB Kyle Lindsay Ohio State
he'll be a better run supporter than coverage DB but I think good run supporting DB are underrated.
1.15
I think we'll get the first gamble here as long as Montreal still owns the pick. K.C Grant has the arm strength teams want in a QB plus a nice ability to avoid the rush. Grant overall has more impressive combine numbers than Barrett plus he's more developed.
The Pick: Montreal selects QB K.C. Grant Hawaii
Personally I don't let height effect my evaluation of players but that could be a concern for some GMs. 5-10 would never be considered ideal.
1.16
St. Louis has a serious lack of talent at the WR position and while this years class isn't overwhelming I still see some potential prospects that could go in the 1st. Quentin Thomas is an overall solid WR nothing special nothing glaring either. It's pretty simple, St Louis needs a WR badly and Thomas is the best available.
The Pick: St. Louis selects WR Quentin Thomas Iowa State
Thomas is a very green pick but he's still got pretty good potential.
