GG Texas. Obviously we're not winning a game this season if we lose the turnover battle -4. Ultimately I'd encouraged by what I did see. With the benefit of a holding calling that wiped out a 50+ TD catch for Mathis his stat line for the game was very average. Both RB's looked great. WLB Joseph had a nice game as did rookie Parrella.

Come from behind in the last seconds of the game to tie and force overtime, then we win in o.t. on a fumble by Portland, which we returned for a touchdown.

It was a chaotic game, but a win on the road in the division is a win. Beats the heck out of losing.

          GG Beez.

2 early turnovers and giving up a running 1st down on 3rd and 36 were the low lights.

I like what I see. I have the makings of an offense. I need some better O linemen. And another WR. But other then that (lol), Its ok.

Defense is a mess, though. Brutal. Need to work some magic on that side of the ball.

DG, I like Sutton. He is going to be a good one.

Yeah, GG Tarc. That 3rd and 36 scenario was insane. Let's look at it from my perspective.

Georgia: Weak formation with three wide receivers, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 and strong-side man, otherwise cover-7 zone coverage, expecting the run.
1-10-TUL21 (1Q: 12:15) J.R. Haass ran around the left tackle for -1 yards. Tackled by OLB J.T. Kleinecke. PENALTY: Georgia was called for Offensive Holding.

Georgia: Strong formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
1-20-TUL31 (1Q: 12:07) PENALTY: Georgia was called for a False Start.

Georgia: Weak formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 3-deep zone coverage, expecting the pass.
1-25-TUL36 (1Q: 12:01) Damon Beyer ran a counterplay inside the right tackle for 9 yards. Tackled by DE Dean Trapp, assisted by OLB Wade Robbins. Key block delivered by Brian Limbeck.

Georgia: Strong formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and strong-side man, otherwise cover-7 zone coverage, expecting the pass. Burns, Walton and Denning are blitzing.
2-16-TUL27 (1Q: 11:26) J.R. Haass ran a trap outside the left tackle for 16 yards. Tackled by ILB Randal Walton. Key block delivered by Brian Limbeck. PENALTY: Georgia was called for an Illegal Shift.

Georgia: Single-Back formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 2-deep bump-and-run coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
2-21-TUL32 (1Q: 11:11) PENALTY: Georgia was called for a False Start.

Georgia: Single-Back formation with trips receivers, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the pass. Burns is blitzing.
2-26-TUL37 (1Q: 11:05) Damon Beyer ran around the left tackle for 6 yards. Tackled by ILB Randal Walton. PENALTY: Georgia was called for Illegal Use of the Hands.

Georgia: Weak formation with two tight ends, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and strong-side man, otherwise cover-7 zone coverage, keying aggressively on the pass. Burns is blitzing.
2-36-TUL47 (1Q: 10:59) Damon Beyer ran around right end for 0 yards. Tackled by S Bart Maestas, assisted by ILB Max Duncan.

Georgia: Goal-Line formation with three tight ends, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with nickel personnel and strong-side man, otherwise cover-7 zone coverage, expecting the pass.
3-36-TUL47 (1Q: 10:13) Damon Beyer ran outside the right tackle for 41 yards. Tackled by OLB Wade Robbins. Key block delivered by Brian Limbeck. Limbeck ran over Kirk Matteson to set up the play.

We were called for 5 f'in penalties on that series of downs. Insane. We at one point in that series of downs were at 1st and 25, and then in a matter of two plays we got a first down on a 16 yard run on 2nd and 16. But wait, that was called back too, and then we're sitting at 2nd and 21. Then they called us for two more for good measure.

I must have forgot to turn off the excessive penalties in my gameplan because we had 17 damn penalties for 135 yards. Hence we averaged 10.1 yard to go on 3rd down. Lot's of drive killers there. I really hope this was an aberration, because I don't see any reason we would have this problem. We have the same coach and pretty much the same team as last year, and we never saw penalties like this.

That said, we looked good. 1st round pick Beyer looks like a beast at RB and the passing game looked good. I expected better from the defense, but we had penalties which helped keep drives alive there too. In fact, Tulsa had 3 1st down conversions from penalties.

Your 3rd down conversion percentage was awesome. In my experience, thats the difference. Down and distance doesnt matter. Its if you can pick them up. And, obviously, you can.

Your team is on a mission. But I think we beat you in Tulsa. We still have a great home field advantage. So dont get nervous.

Vipers came big against Chicago this week ... comp accelerates algorithmically this week against Texas ... so we shall see how real this team actually is real soon.

By the way GG Iceman, first games of the season are always a crap shoot. I fully expect a different level of game the next time that we meet this season.

ref crews would be a nice, although annoying, feature in this game.

I once attented a Titan game against the ratbirds and Tennessee had like 23 penalties and murdermore got called for almost 20.

Hentak was the 147 year old ref that oversaw that travesty.

Anyhow different crews definatly call games differently. For FOF they could just increase/decrease penalty rate. Could include crew information on weather screen. Overtime would dread having 'Hentak' work your game but look forward to the "Mike Carey's"

that ref suggestion would be a nice wrinkle in the game ...

The Louisiana Voodoo a 13 point underdog at home came up with an impressive come from behind win over division foe St. Louis on opening night. Kicker Corwin Farmer led the way in the 36-24 win by going 5 for 5 in field goals. Ellis Thomason added to the special team scoring with an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Over on defense first round pick DT Julio Cancilliere had 3 tackles and ½ a sack in his Voodoo debut. The Voodoo defensive unit had two great 4th quarter stands to preserve the win. Always good to start the season off with a win, especially when you are a double digit dog. Next up is Salt Lake City who had a very impressive win over Carolina. Who goes 2 and 0 to start the season?
