I’m not a FOF defensive guru – everything that I’m about to share is MY TAKE on the information I have gleaned from running the 34 w/ four different teams. Take what you will from this post and please don’t shoot the messenger when you get lit the hell up

Do not try to go with an ELEPHANT here! You want a strong DT in the 6-1, 300 lbs range. Having a bigger guy here just isn’t as effective

Ideally you want a dominant edge rusher here so that the LT /LG have to deal with him. This allows for 1-on-1 matchups on WLB.

Get the best PT/PS combo you can find. These are the only bars that really matter for him – yes, dude can be ZERO in all other attributes and still be effective. If you can get a WLB that can also play the run, you’ll not get gashed on the weak side run. If you forego the run-stuffing ability make sure your RCB / FS can play the run. If this guy has low endurance—find a duplicate player and platoon the position. I currently have two sub 20 overall guys rushing the passer on my GEFL2 team.

These are the only bars I pay attn to when drafting inside backers – PT/PS are nice to have as these guys blitz occasionally but you can do fine without. Zone is touted as the only pass coverage you need to look for here over on FOFC. As I play a 34/46 Cover2, these guys need the bump coverage.

This is where you spend our draft pick on talent. You want an absolute stud here as this guy is going to do everything. In my system, he moves inside on Dime/Nickel packages as needed.
LCB/RCB

This depends on YOUR preference as I’ve had success running a pure M2M system as well—I just like the physical aspect of my version.
My 34 is almost all bump coverage. I normally don’t go as heavy as I did last season but my pass rush was effective enough to warrant it.
Beware -- without a consistent pass rush, you will get burnt running this defense as the corners release the receiver to the safeties after the initial bump – make sure your safeties are capable.
Place a premium on the INT / PD bars here and the system will surprise you.
SS/FS

Next we breakdown the defensive attacks used against OAK / WV last season with an actual screenshot walkthrough of the defense if you guys are interested.
* the numbers in parens are the recommended minimum values for position.
