  • Zbucks Chemistry Guide

There's two big thing to understand when were talking about building team chemistry. 1st it's all about personality, that's the most important aspect in the chemistry equation, not leadership. 2nd it's important to understand that all players in a position group benefit from the overall position group affinity score not just the players with the affinity. I just to try and find affinity matches for my starters but that's not necessary.

Personality is what gives the affinity the overall grade we'll call it. Think of it like this, mild affinity +1, affinity +2, strong +3 and exceptional +4. If my team leader has less than 50 personality he's gone. Generally I try to get my team leaders to have above 80 personality because that's the only way to get the exceptional affinities.

Your stud WR benefits more from having the 5th string WR have an exceptional affinity with the team leader than his own mild affinity. I try to find role players that also are exceptional affinity matches.

It's really difficult to start the chemistry process with an established team. There's obviously guys you can't or don't want to move and it may not be possible to adjust the team leader in that situation. LR was in rebuilding mode so that made it easier to redo the chemistry. I recently took over an older playoff bound team and that was much more challenging from a chemistry standpoint. Basically I try to find high personal team leaders that don't have a conflict with any studs I have. It's far easier to replace the roll players and generally anyone mid 40s or lower i'm probably just going to cut and bring in some mid to high 30s that's hopefully an exceptional affinity.

I'll add some bonus info/wild speculation...

QB affinities are a very important part of chemistry. Your QB can have an affinity/conflict with any of your other position leaders and it may be worthwhile to seek out position leaders that get along well with your QB even more than affinities within a position group. speculatory info: your QB can have affinity/conflict with defensive leaders too. They don't show up on his player card, but you may have noticed sometimes when you offer a contract, a message will come up saying "so and so would be a leader on your team, your QB is disappointed." This message shows up for defensive team leaders as well. Do defensive QB affinities/conflicts matter? That's why this is speculation.

More speculation: In Greta's best team leader list, you may notice that they are not ordered by Leadership alone. It seems to me that Greta orders team leaders by a combination of Leadership and Wants a Winner. This makes intuitive sense to me... If you have a guy who's supposed to be inspiring the other guys at his position, you definitely want him to be invested in winning the game.

So when I'm out looking for team leaders, I want them to have affinities with my QB, (even defensive leaders) and I look for high numbers in all 3 categories; Leadership, Personality, and Wants a Winner.... YMMV

this is Downing first season with a triple affinity for leaders (and matching my D leader too ZBuck as I noticed that last season).

I'm hoping the exceptional affinities I've gotten equate to us being a bit harder to stop in key situations.

I'm going to killed Weeks 1-4 b/c these are just better teams we're facing BUT I hope the games are close enough that we can get some dice rolls in our favor.

Just a comment on the D leader affinities with QBs. It's basically a function that was removed from the game but the message still appears. Jim said there's no benefit from having your QB have a match with a team leader.

Trial and error a little bit, Comments from Jim and watching QuikSand and Ben E Lou. I was in IHOF for a brief period and both played the chemistry game basically the same.

I just dont have it in me to go this deep into the game. Over in IHOF a guy changed a QB to FS because of affinities (The change made the QB the pos leader of the D backfield at FS). They showed a screen shot of his team and about 50 of his 53 players have affinities. The position change from QB to FS gained his DBackfield all affinities or exceptional affinities.

Im ready for a new game.

I agree. I will work on cohesion, I just don't have the patience or desire to get too into affinities. It may alter a draft day decision, but other than that, I don't put too much time into it and I don't know if has enough of an effect to make it worth it.

Well, 3,4,5 days (haven't slept much) into the real life drill (of someone who doesn't think "the kids can get by") and I think FOF isn't NEARLY as close as real life to throwing strange (otherwise useless) monkey wrenches into the plan THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL.

Again, I feel as though I did upon initial sign-up to FOF: Most people saw "another football game" however this is a "different football game" regarding things most feel boring.
