  • Best time to switch rookie's position?

If you're changing a rookie's weight and position is it better to wait until after Training Camp to change the position, when the player is already at the new weight, or during the TC file to get them into camp at the new position?

I have a habit of changing after TC for rookies. You miss out on gaining experience but if they bust.you know it was the player not the position switch. For those with weight gain/loss do that in TC and move after regardless.. best switch I ever made was a CB to safety after 1 season sat on the bench.. switched at the start of the draft and he went down.. before the season though he had gone up 30 in current and 25 in potential.

        change position BEFORE training camp.

Ok re-write, before TC changing weights I use for moving from safety to CB.
I can be more flexible for other position switches though i prefer getting the weight right first..

Note I do it this way round as a multi bowl winner in another league told me this was the way he did it as you know if the bust was the player or the position switch

I'm with Matt, I always change before TC, and make sure the weights are cool...

if you have a heavy DE that's going to transition to DT, I don't want to slim his butt down....

              somethin' like that.

As a rookie going into their first training camp, they are more flexible with position changes. the ratings will hold instead of being a % if done as a rookie. the further entrenched into their careers, the harder it is.

Take my LB Eric Sewick. He was a DE. Try changing a 2nd or 3rd yr DE to OLB and see what ratings hold will be. compare that to a rookie.

                  Agreed

I'm always doing em before camp. Some position switch will not get any change in future ratings when done before their 1st camp.

If you change the weight in camp and then change position AFTER camp you will have less ratings loss.

FOF checks the guy's current ratio for ratings hits/booms, so you want to get his ratio in line first, then switch him

So I looked back at Phantoms history. Both Vernon Copeland and Willie Bohannan started as light-weight DTs and switched to DE. Copeland Pre-TC and Bohannan on Week 7 (not sure why I took so long). I remember Copeland being a disappointment on the switch and Bohannan worked out great so I'm gonna wait until after TC I think.

Turns out I won't be changing weight as the rookie fits in fine at LDE as is.
