2016 IFL OWNER AWARDS
Most Valuable Player
QB Matt Sanford, Tulsa TigerHawks
After 3 straight seasons of coming up short, including an Imperial Bowl loss in 2015, QB Matt Sanford finaly led the TigerHawks to the promised land in 2016. After another stellar regular season, Sanford was nearly flawless in the playoffs, including 3 touchdowns in the National Conference title game and a record 78% completion percentage in the Imperial Bowl which earned him MVP honors.
With this award Sanford steps into the upper echelon of Imperial league stars past and present.
Offensive Player Of The Year
RB Geoff Wilson, Oakland Devil Dogs
Two years after earning Offensive Rookie Of The Year honors, Oaklands' Wilson cemented his spot as one of the league premiere offensive threats. Wilsons 15 Touchdowns led all league running backs and his 5.31ypc ranked second among backs with over 200 carries. The third year back has revitilized football in the bay area and promises to be one of the leagues premiere threats for years to come.
Defensive Player Of The Year
Everett Rose, Montreal Firebirds
With a PDP near an ungodly 94%, 5 interceptions and 85 tackles, Montreals Rose was at once the most productive and feared players on the defensive side of the ball in 2016. His tenacity and ability helped lead a resurgance in Montreal and left his mark on any recieve in the league who thought about crossing the middle. Rose is the first Safety in the leagues history to earn the DPOTY award.
Offensive Rookie Of The Year
RB Derrick Ward, Lansing Ogres
The 26th overall pick in the 2016 draft, Ward went straight from Oregon State to Lansing and led all rookies in both Touchdowns and Yards.
Defensive Rookie Of The Year
MLB Winifred Reilly, Orlando Pirates
[i]Reilly, the 5th overall pick in the 2016 draft, started slowly but came on like a monster, collection 10 games of 10 or tackles en route to leading the league with 147 tackles and adding 2 interceptions. One of the few bright spots in a rough season for Orlando, Reilly has already established himself as one of the toughest and hardest hitting players in the league.
Special Teams Player Of The Year
CB Lawrence Wiggins, Salt Lake City Stallions
Wiggins returned an IFL record three kickoffs for touchdowns and ammassed nearly 2000 total return years in 2016 as he helped SLC earn their second straight division crown.
Executive Of The Year
Tarcone, Tulsa TigerHawks
A year after coming up just short in his bid to win an IFL crown, Tarcone came back with a team every bit as strong and maybe with just a little more swagger. It was the 4th straight division crown for the TigerHawks and their second straight trip to the Imperial Bowl. Tarcone joins Jeff as the only owner to win Executive Of The Year twice, 2013 being the other season.
