  • Idea..The "Dakota" Rule

A league commissioner has the authority to bypass, make a selection, extend reduce or terminate a teams allotted draft selection time at any time during the IFL draft in order to keep the draft moving for the individuals who are actively participating.

Examples of a situation requiring this rule would include:
A team owner is absent or not actively involved in the draft process.
A team owner is intentionally holding the draft up.
A team owner has not logged into the site for an extended amount of time during the draft.
    ETC....

This will help the draft continue to move in a timely fashion for the active owners who are participating, and not being penalized by those owners who have chosen not to, or unable to to be involved.

I just like any rule where a person or team is specifically mentioned. It adds a bit of history and flair to the league :-D

I know there will be apologists who will say the draft moved quickly overall, and this is true. I just think that many of us who are really into it feel stymied by a perception that some people could care less about this stage of the game. In the end, it is simply a game, and other things matter far more... but since we're playing ANYWAY, might as well have some fun with the rules and regulations as well, no? :-)

Make no mistake, I'm not trying to be draconian here but the reality is, we have a set of owners who have chosen to be actively involved in this process of the game, the draft. Yet what I am seeing is because of those who are not, we are losing the interest of those who are by having to wait hours and hours for those picks to time out, only to see the next teams pick sit max time again and again.
We have currently waited 3.5 hours for TWO PICKS, both of whose owners apparently have ZERO interest in being involved. One of them hasn't even logged into the site in some 27 hours. That tells me that owner just doesn't care. I'm completely aware that real life trumps the game, and that's fine, so lets institute a rule whereas we are able to keep the draft moving and fun for those who are here.

Next year it could be me who is working and unable to be involved in the draft and I still support this rule. If I'm so apathetic that I don't bother to log in and create a list, or leave instructions with Matt or Sui, then I should be passed up.

Draft's moving fine. No need to alter anything. The draft is only going to take about five days. I've been in leagues where the draft is done in two or three days and it goes too quick. A five day draft is perfect. I think we just need to grin and bear it through these lulls and use the time to figure out late round picking strategies. It's what I do.

The overall speed of the draft is neither here nor there. The point being, there is a good amount of owners who after round 1, just go absent. You can make the selections 5 hours or 30 minutes and there still not going to be here no matter what the allotted time is. Altering the time sets isn't to finish the draft in X days, it's to keep the draft moving for the owners who are active. That's the entire point. The only way to do that, is to cut the overall selection time so we can bypass the inactive teams in a timely manner so the owners who are active can participate.

Yeah, I think Javes point is not sure much making the draft fly, just to make it better for those who are actively involved. I have no problem waiting for someone to make a trade, figure out a pick, etc. Its waiting for hours for someone you know wont show up thats galling. Even then, 1 hour for a 4th round pick is plenty.

biggest joke of a post I have ever seen.

If this ever becomes the case I will be tradeing all my draft picks and skipping the draft all together.

I still don't think any changes are necessary. 3.5 hours for two picks isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm just saying that the draft gets done in five days, at the same time the end of pre-draft FA ends, so savor it a little bit. I don't like how everyone can't wait for the draft to get here and then are always in a hurry to get to their picks and get the draft over with.

There are enough rules to the draft. Just keep it simplistic.

                  ditto.

I just think Jave is just being a bitch. esp listing my name as the name of the rule. Jave wants to let sui be a dick tater.

POR REN and one or two other teams have held this draft up more then ANYBODY else.

No need to get hostile. I think this is a good idea. This has less to do with the incident that happened with you as it is to combat the lackadaisical owner who goes AFK nearly the entire draft.

P.S. Sui doesn't need a rule to override the draft times, he's the commissioner. This rule is moreso intended to bypass teams that were active early in the draft, but have since stop participating.

First off, DG was online at least as - if not more - often as 26 other owners. The team name on the clock of course gets the attention but there are situations - like waiting for an hour for another GM who told you "I'm eating a sandwich. Be back online in 5 minutes" to seal a trade - where it's out of that GMs control.

Onto the rule talk: If the target is not total draft speed but to avoid waiting for intentional/expected no-shows then I propose putting a MINIMUM draft time of 5-10 minutes for drama purposes and to keep the total speed similar - I personally feel like I'm playing catch-up when 5 picks auto-fire at once and would rather see them unveiled one at a time - while dropping the MAXIMUM time not for missing a pick, but for going a certain time (20 hours?) without logging in. This way those who are around won't get penalized as easily and those who haven't been around will be penalized ON the pick... not the NEXT one.

Since you are correct and this does happen, maybe we can have a "Done with Draft" thread and if said GMs would be decent enough to post in there we can auto-pick or whatever for the rest of the draft for them.

As stated elsewhere I'm fine with things as they are. I'm just tossing out some ideas to be productive.

if its not about me. and btw i have made every pick in under 90 minutes. Most in under 10 but yes if it is not about me why the fuck do you have my name on the rule? what a joke.

shoulda named it the fucking Portland rule. Here we are again waiting his max time 3 times in one round.

Haha you should be honored there's a rule named after ya! I've been here since 2004 and there ain't no rule named after me!:thewave:

You have been one of the most active owners in the league. I'm not baggin on ya. I named it as such to insure there was a rule in place where we could bypass an owner in certain situations if it was beneficial to the league.

No way I would vote to pass that. Sounds like the patriot act to me. Sui could start skippin picks like mine all willie nillie and say its beneficial to the league.

I think other ideas we discussed in the chat today would make better rules.

being more Strict on people who miss picks.

People whom are active and actually make quick picks should be alotted their full amount of time reguardless of the situation to do as they wish. Trade or w/e.
