2015 IFL OWNER AWARDS
Most Valuable Player
QB Deron Markel, West Virginia Beasts
Always a steady hand, Markels asscenion to the top actualy began in 2014 when he took over for highly regarded Chad Harding and led The Beasts to their first Imperial Bowl championship. In 2015 Markel proved it was no fluke. Putting up not only gaudy stats but displaying a workmanlike leadership he led the Beasts to their 2nd straight title. In the 10 seasons before Markel arrived in WV the beasts had not won a playoff game. Since his arrival the team has won 6 straight. If that doesn't scream MVP I don't know what does.
Markels win should be noted as one of the tightest races in awards history as a scant 1 vote seperated him and QB Jon Cavazos. Fittingly, Cavazos is almost a carbon copy of Markel, a longtime solid hand whos leadership on and off the field led Pennsylvania to a stunning 14-2 record. With Jons signing in Norfolk during the offseason it'll be a fun watch as two of the IFL's top field generals compete in the same division.
Offensive Player Of The Year
QB Ottis Peterson, Murfreesboro Mules
With his 3rd Offensive Player Of They Year award, Murfreesboros Opie Peterson enters the realm of the immortals. In 2015 he led the Mules to their 4th straight AC South title and 4th straight American Conference title game. Petersons 55 Touchdowns and 122.9 Quarterback Rating led the league.
Defensive Player Of The Year
LB Ike Cook, Louisiana Voodoo
The 4th year, former 1st round pick finaly put it all together in 2015 for the Voodoo. Not only did Cook wreak havoc on opposing Quarterbacks by leading the league in sacks, but he also added 81 tackles and a forced fumble. On a sstruggling Voodoo team, Ike Cook became a superstar.
Offensive Rookie Of The Year
QB Orlando Surratt, Houston Renegades
The 10th overall pick in the 2015 draft, Surratt shone like a diamond on the field for the Renegades. His 3800 yards and 28 TD's easily led all rookies and established him from the get go as a QB to be reckoned with in the league and the major cornerstone of an up and coming Houston franchise.
Defensive Rookie Of The Year
DE Derek McKinley, Hartford Grizzlies
McKinley, the 9th overall pick in the 2015 draft out of Georgia Tech, has no problem adjusting to the cold of Hartford, in fact he only heated up as the season went on. Dereks 9.5 sacks and 42 tackles helped the Grizzlies to their first winning record in 16 years. A locker room force and and a menace on the field, McKinley is poised for IFL greatness.
Special Teams Player Of The Year
WR Larry Farr, Houston Renegades
Farrs big play ability led to 2 TD returns in 2015.
Executive Of The Year
CyYoung, Pennsylvania Lions
Another very close vote that saw Cy narrowly edge out Kozure and VitoStallion for the Owner Of The Year award.
A relative newcomer to the league, Cy took a team that had perenialy contended for a playoff spot and turned it into a juggernaut. The Lions 14 regular season wins tied them for best in the league. Cy's gameplanning and elevation of career backup Jon Cavazos into one of the leagues premier Quarterbacks put the entire National Conference on notice that there was yet another topflight owner in their mists.
