  • Opinions...

Does anyone here know, or have any opinions on this.

Do coaches make roster adjustments based on a players ability? For instance, not by design, but my RT Duane Barton is a GREAT run blocker, but pass blocking...not so much. In fact, he is terrible. However his backup, Kyle Boyer is a GREAT pass blocker, but terrible at run blocking. Would the coach pull Barton on passing plays since he is the starting tackle, or does the game engine not get quite that specific?

Also another, unrelated question. I drafted Clifton Erbaugh to be my starting LT. I would have moved him to that position permanently however I didn't want to take the permanent 11% loss in abilities. Now this year I notice the permanent ability loss is set at 17% and his RT is improving faster then his LT (Based on the color bar under position experience) even though I started him EVERY SINGLE GAME at LT last year.
Now what that tells me is the coach must be moving him from LT and playing him a considerable amount at RT, and that's scary because my backup LT is rated 27/49. Or he's just moving players around here and there wherever he wants them. Or I'm totally off?

If anyone can clue me in on at least their opinion that would be awsome.

Not based in fact in any way but I don't think the coach looks at pass or run specific plays and uses players based on that. Not by the numbers i've looked at regarding plays played.

The other stuff, well that's the part of the game that gives me a freakin headache so i've never really tested it out.

I don't think the coaches move them from RT to LT or vice versa. I'd guess that FOF considers your guy a RT and that's why he's improving there instead of at LT, though it makes no sense if you're playing him at LT.

I believe the hit to moving positions might be due to the experience (color not actual games played unfortunately) only and would make sense if your guy's gone up in RT experience and now would take a greater hit if moved to LT.

All this is opinion, as requested, as is my belief that immediately after drafting someone is the best time for a position change and it just gets harder from there.

Agree with JesterBlaze here, also if Jim did have OL in run/pass packages it would totally be the opposite of the NFL. No team does this.

University of Tennessee tried some god-awful OL switching that led directly to Fat Phil getting Phired! They were subbing and flipping the OL on a play to play basis depending on what they were gonna do. Everyone was just confused. That is the only time I am aware of a major college doing anything other than subbing for injury and fatigue.

Everyone but the defense I'd imagine.

Ok..this is kinda what I was thinking as well. And I am assuming once a players experience at a position turns "red" you can probably move him with zero penalty. I am willing to wait.

it won't work from RT to LT...

your best best was to do it when he was a rook, or just play him out of position.

Bleh, that blows. I refuse to only retain 82% of his skills.....looks like he will forever be a RT.
