WOW, for anyone who knows me it's no suprise I get attached to my players so this year was tough to see the retirements:
Ernest Martinez(FL Oak)- This guy was THE Oakland receiver since day 1! I drafted him in the initial allocation draft when all his skinny ass had was potential. It was because of him I drafted Hamilton. At the time I was thinking Montana to Rice so it sucks to see him retire, even after I traded him. I will always consider him a part of this team. And as cheesy as this sounds, it was awsome to see him get a ring before he retired!
Gregory Shook(DE)- He wasn't here long, but was an important part of the team
Patrick Davey(CB)-Another player I drafted in the initial allocation draft. Started out a safety but I switched him to CB. If I remember right he dropped quite a few points to but still played outstanding during his time roaming the Oakland defensive backfield.
Harold "Finger" Lozier(QB NFK)-Nope, was never in Oakland but I remember his great last minute comeback in the Imperial Bowl that JUST DID beat us with the clock winding down. If I had to pick the greatest player in IFL history, my vote would go to this guy, no questions asked, no doubt in my mind.
Ken "Tank" Allmon(LB Oak)-Another I hand drafted in the initial allocation draft. While his time atop the all-time leaderboard for tackles will easily be broken by next season his contribution to this team will NEVER be forgotton. Just plug in and forget about, he did his job day in day out, year after year. He was the rock of my defense and it sucks for the first time EVER going into a season without him.
Matthew Myer(FB Oak)-My last live pick in that first year as it was late and Cring was calling it quits I implored him to just let me get past round 11 as I had my eye on Myer all night long. While I wanted him to retire here in Oakland that suck head Sui caught me sleeping and scooped him up last season in FA. ASSHOLE!! Haha Myer was another ROCK in my offensive backfield. I never had to worry about a FB for 4 years and what...12 seasons? Gonna miss him!!
Daniel Rich(TE SLC)- Another one who was never in Oakland but I have MAD respect for him during his years in SLC. I FEARED this guy, I HATED this guy, but I am also gonna miss him. Another of the greatest players in IFL history.
Joshua McLaughlin(CB Oak)-Another safety converted to CB Joshua played every single year of his long career here in Oakland. Like Myer, I NEVER had to think about a CB to draft, just plug him in and let him play. He was a rock for my team, was rarly injured and always played strong defense.
Daniel Williams(FL CLE)-Nope, never in Oakland but another guy I have seen time and again since the very beginning of the league. One on the rocks, a great player and if there is a IFL HOF, eventually he should be inducted.
Kurt "Showtime" Bice(FL Oak) One half of the "dynamic Duo in Oakland alongside Martinez, they put on a receiving CLINIC during their time here. If it weren't for the horrible injury he might have very well been THE best of ALL TIME in the IFL.
Vicente Yeh(TE MTL/Oak) One of the greats since the first season of the IFL. While he didn't play here long, the guy was a GREAT TE right up through his last year in the league.
Wesley Connell(RB) He was supposed to be my "Tart" for those of you who have been around awhile, but it was a complete failure and I switched to the "3 headed monster" of Hamilton, Martinez and Bice. This was also the infamous trade with Cring that shocked so many of the original owners. I still think it was a good trade.
Marshall Cuomo(G STL) One of the greatest guards to ever play in the IFL. While he was never in Oakland I have nothing but respect for this guy and it's a bit sad to see him retire as well.
All in all one of the toughest years I have seen in the IFL for retirements. For us "ol' school" GM's the list of greats that are now forever gone from the league is a real blow. Hopefully we see a few of em return as coaches..uugghhh
