in the NFL a player goes UFA AFTER their 4th year in the league. Vast majority of rookies sign 3 year minimum salary deals, with some bonus, giving the original team three years to evaluate and RFA in the 4th season. A rookie who signs a 4+ year deal, usually a high draft pick, will go straight to UFA.

That's what happened to my Fullback.. it was a 4-year contract and now he's an UFA.. caught me by surprise but I never doubted it was correct, I was just a little miffed that I didn't know.

Now I'll have to slap him with the franchise tag :P

Lucky for you it was actually salary and not bonus or you'd have broken league rules and been forced to void it and lose such a great player. :-P

I missed out on signing Pearson after his rookie contract (thought RFA was after all rookie contracts, not just 3-year ones). Had to franchise him.. and the franchise price for fullbacks is 3.5 million :P now he won't sign a reasonable contract...
