ESPN the Magazine compared numbers from all 4 major leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL). I was checking it out and this number jumped out at me. It made me reflect back on our long discussion about the cap in the IFL last off season. Here are the numbers that jumped out at me.
The Salary cap in the NFL is $128 million. The average team payroll is $113.2 million. This leaves, on average, $14.8 million in wasted cap space per team.
the IFL salary cap is $126.8 million. The average team payroll is $111.4 million. This leaves, on average, $15.4 million in wasted cap space per team.
You can't get much more realistic then that.
