  • Georgia Stepping Down...

Man I have to honestly say this was one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in awhile... But unfortunately I am to the point where this game has lost its appeal for me. With the new house coming and my frustrations that exist in game... I have decided that I really need to cut back my activities online and focus on other issues.

IFL was my first league so its made it even harder for me to let go... But unfortunately I have to do it.

I will stay on until a new GM is selected or season end, which ever comes first.

Sorry for doing this at this time... Unfortunately I just got so much going on...

    Thanks for all the fun

Great to have you in the league, David.

And of course the IFL's history is ripe with GM's who've come, gone, and come back again so hopefully we haven't seen the last of the iceman...

You suck, and you are just tired of losing to me, admit it.

Sucks to see you go David, but I understand it. This game needs an update and I hope guys hang on long enough to see one.
My banner is bigger and prettier and cooler then yours. I choose not to show it so your feelings do not get hurt.

You speak the truth. I'm pretty fed up with this game myself. Its hard to give up the team though but this game is shit. Need another patch that will seriously address some major problems in the game.

Or switch to another game if there is one out there that is better.

Isn't somebody over at FOF making a game similar to FOF?? VPI??

the game is shit. nice stat engine, which is why Jim needs to give up the solo gig and go work with another company to develop their sim engine. i need better eye candy, i need more challenges with regards to building my team - not knowing how to set my gameplan. i don't know anything that i'm doing on defense, teams march on me at will. cohesion is overrated in this game. when Chad Pennington can go to a 1-15 and turn them into division champs overnight that goes to show you how little cohesion matters in football (it matters only for offensive-line purposes, *maybe* defensive line also). how long does it take to build cohesion anyway??? i've had the same DE and DT for the last 6 years, the same MLB since the team's inception. somehow i don't any cohesion in the 80's at all. i just don't like this game, i hate looking at it - there's no desire on the part of the game developer to make this an engaging game. it just spits out stats.

gameplan needs to be simplified. it should be dropdown menus like this:

                    1. Run game: how many times should your team run the ball?
                    A. 1-14 runs per game (equals west coast offense)
                    B. 15-25 runs (equals balanced offense)
                    C. 26+ runs per game (equals smashmouth offense)

                    2. Receiving game: how many targets should your top WR get per game?
                    A. 1-5 targets
                    B. 6-10 targets
                    C. 11+ targets

                    3. What is the ratio of carries between your starting RB and backup RB?
                    A. Starter: 90% Backup:10%
                    B. Starter: 75% Backup: 25%
                    C. Starter: 50% Backup: 50%

stuff like that. i don't need to be involved with specifics, just generalities. i want to indicate how much to run and who i want to get the most of those carries. i want to designate how many targets my top WR gets. hopefully one of these days a game will get it right.

Like what? Being that we all select from the same group of players and stay under the same salary cap I don't see what more can be done as far as team building, though I'm interested...

So Pennington, who couldn't lead the Jets to shit, single-handedly turned around a 70+ player and 20+ coach organization? Nothing to do with the hundreds of other changes on the team? Or even changes outside the team like the Pats losing Brady and giving confidence for the first time in a while to the rest of the division.

Cohesion matters not only in football but anytime 2 or more humans work together in a teamwork fashion. Even the cashier & bagger combo at the grocery store moves faster when they've got some cohesion.

I'm hanging on for now. I think my point of diminishing fun started around the time the season preview and stuff like that stopped though, not necessarily due to FOF 2007.

I think a simple patch to nerf the offenses in general would work for me as far as the game goes. No reason the worst QB in our league has around a 75 passer rating IMO.

And I've thought long on this one and though realistically stud WRs can tear up double teams for the sake of a strategy game I think double-team in FOF should be quite strong and almost take a player out of the game if the defensive talent is decent.

The season preview is a lot of work, usually done by just a handfull of individuals. I used to participate in that activity, however now I don't know if I would have the time commitment it would take to do it right. However, I think that if enough people participated, we could easily hammer something out. I think I'd like that. I miss that as well.

                            It was all Pennington! lol

It did have nothing to do with the two headed monster of Brown and Williams or Porters 17 sacks. Or the development of the young WR's they had, or the pickup of Fasano, or Bell staying healthy, or the 'we were a 1-15 team, so what do we have to lose.' attitude regarding play calling and formations, or the overall good coaching by Sparano and his crew.

Oh, and it also had nothing to do with an extremely easy schedule which got them 9 wins off teams without a winning record, and another win coming off a Jets team lead by one of the most overrated QB's in NFL history who had like a 40 passing rating in his last 5 or so games. The only 'real' win they had was against the Pats team when they shocked them with crazy formations and plays... oh, it didn't help that the team recently lost it's MVP QB and didn't have it's #1 RB either.

So yea, it was all Pennington

                              1. Tom Brady out for the year, Cassell steps in and they go 11-5. if this was FOF you'd be done.

                              2. The year before the Pats picked up Randy Moss and essentially a whole new WR corps and went undefeated. this would never be possible in FOF. replacing all your starting WRs??!?

                              3. Matt Ryan takes the Falcons to the playoffs. since QBs are so important in FOF we know this would never happen, you get the double whammy of not having a longtime QB in place plus an underdeveloped QB all in one. no team would have that amount of success in a FOF league.

                              4. Jets go 9-7 with a new QB and rebuilt O-line.

                              5. Giants get a 1st round bye in 2008 playoffs losing a longtime DE in Strahan and Unemyiora in the same year.

                              6. Vikings go to the playoffs having 2 starting QBs at various times throughout the season.

i pay no attention to everything else jester said cuz he just likes to say the opposite of what i said, this was geared more towards Steve.

the things i would do to increase GM challenge (while decreasing the need to act like a head coach and oc/dc all in one):

                              1. add more personality to the league. give me some stud players who get me the stats but will be a cancer. jim started down that path with red flag players, but those are few and far enough between that you can avoid them if you want, and even if you do have one their negative effect isn't pronounced enough. make me have to decide if having a Randy Moss/TO on my team is worth the risk.

                              2. have more players hold out. on draft day where i see who has high/low loyalty ratings i should have to decide "this kid is gonna be special, but is he gonna be on our team for training camp? is he gonna bolt town first chance he gets?"

                              3. let me choose what kind of offense i want to run and then go out and get players and coaches that suit that style. but keep me away from the X's and O's and don't let me be at as disadvantage over people who do the X's and O's part.

                              those are just a couple.
