-wow, Heroes with the clutch move in trading Larry Deason to Lansing and getting a 2nd round pick out of it.

        - biggest hit to the Heroes was to the O-Line: OG Ricciardi, with the team from the beginning in 2003, and OT Theobold (unexpectedly).

        - the league's oldest QB, Chris Chaplin of the Beasts, finally hung them up. the oldest starter - Julian Cartegena - who was a California Hero for a couple days before being shipped to Vancouver for Dennis Collela, has also retired.

Damn, Matt. What are you feeding/injecting those old players in Newark to keep 'em going???

6 players with now 12 years or more of experience didn't retire from the Bulldogs as well as 11 players total over 11 years experience.

Coder also brings back some highly experienced unfriendly faces, especially at OLine.

Cartegena and Jeff retire at the same time, Willoughby and Kobeck retire at the same time. Coincidence? I think not.

I expected some of my longtime stars to shine, instead my 3rd string TE retires and that is it. Brian Dixon is the biggest surprise. He can't walk away from that extra $2.5 million in his pocket I guess. Or he is hoping for a bigger year then the also returning Jacques Crosby in Reno, so he can be the #1 rusher of all time.

              Bye bye James Tart.

Yes, Heath Leigh, longtime great FB for the Toads is now a coaching candidate at the age of 36. He has potential to be a good O.C., already very good with RBs and good with QBs. Could be an fill in at DC is someone was in real bad need of a guy. Probably never going to be a HC.

If I didn't have the great Nate Cromwell at OC for two more years I would sign him just because he is a former Toad, and one of my favorites of all time.

                    Norfolk loses four true Vipers:

K David Harbour leads the league in points scored and FG. He apoligized profusely to the fans in a post game interview folloeing Imperial Bowl IX and announced that it was time for him to hang up his cleats. He blames himself for the loss in the Imperial Bowl as he missed a chippie that should have been.

RB William Brown also announced his retirement. Brown was a critical cog in the Vipers early years of success. He still hold all Viper records for carries, yardage and TDs. He had been relegated to reserve rolls in the last few seasons. Brown told owners not to renew his contract last year as he wanted to retire a Viper and knowing he was a big part of the two rings that he wears on his fingers.

LB Dirk Sunberg is "Viper defense". He had the third highest number of starts, and owns records for the most tackles & most assists. The organization was hoping that he would stay another year and use his mentoring skills but he felt this was a good year to concentrate on fishing, his other love.

S Paul Schrader is the last Viper to retire. The V Defense has always had three crackerjack safeties that played various positions in the secondary. Schrader is the first to retire from the trio of Omer Hasty, Preston Welch and himself. Schrader leaves with the 2nd highest number of interceptions for the Vipers. He primary role the last couple of years has been nickle back.

Sad to see all four go, but the show will go on.

Sad to see All Pro S Gregory Boyd retire. He was a leader on my defense since the league started. He will surely be missed.
I was still surprised to see some of my other guys stay on. Sounds good to me!
Bucky Beaver was slightly shocking. I guess Jester can be happy I won't bug him this offseason.

Greg Boyd, the 2010 hold-out, beats out Lenny Ramano for a distinguished loyalty award??? The rivalry escalates, Matt.

                            lol - nice.

Cartegena will probably land a network job while Manuel will probably become a roadie for Foghat or something.
