  • Franchise player question

I just traded for a top QB in another league and he was the franchise player there. Now, I'm absolutely cap strapped and I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to give him an extention next year but I should be OK to do it the year after.

I just want to know, If I franchise him next year, will he still want to negotiate with me the year after since I'm not the one who franchised him for this season??

I hope my question is clear enough

    Thanks

In many (most?) cases, franchising a player two years in a row will make him unwilling to sign an extension. When it *really* gets, uh, interesting, is when you get the double-whammy:

          1. Multiple-tagged player holds out.
          2. Multiple-tagged player is unwilling to sign long-term deal because of past injustices.

You only have three choices in that case: cut, trade, or hope he ends the holdout. And when he's gotten mad enough to take it to that level, he usually does not end the holdout.

If I could, I would franchise him at the end of the season and give him his extention right after. The thing is, I can't give him right now because he would cost me 16 millions next year and I'll be 8 millions under the cap with some moves.

I know franchising a player 2 seasons in a row is automatic trouble, but is it the same if I'm not the one who's franchised him the 1st time?? I just traded for his rights, so it will be the first time I'll franchise him.

Suicane franchised Marshall Cuomo at least two times in a row (twice in FOF2k7). He was holding out into this regular season, then ended it around Week 4 or so. Suicane already put him on the block by that point and traded him to West Virginia before the deadline.

Holdouts are interesting, to be sure. We had a holdout in WOOF this season that lasted all the way to Week 10 of the regular season.

I made some tests to see the effect of that situation. I traded for another team franchise player and I franchised him myself the year after and sign him to an extention right away.

Test 1 : DE, loyalty rating of 0
result : unwilling to sign due to past injustice

                    Test 2 : TE, loyalty 23
result : he signed with me

                    Test 3 : SLB, loyalty 0
result : he signed with me

                    Test 4 : WR, loyalty 0
result : he signed with me

I would have to make some more tests but I think I could be ok because of the fact that I'm not the team that first franchised him.
