OFFENSE
The Newark Bulldogs had a top offense last season. Nothing has changed from that unit, except the return of Alan Crespo and the loss of LT Irwin Kao. Crespo has been used sparingly in the preseason carrying the ball 24 times for 131yds and 2 TD's. Not too shabby considering his career was almost ended last year in a game against Houston. WR's Kraig Marasco, Walter Walker, and TE OJ Peltier will keep the defense honest as QB Dwight Burger spreads the ball around. Don't be surprised to see QB Ruben Sante at any point this season. His spirited play this preseason has some fans in the New Jersey area talking about a QB controversy. While Burger is 2nd all time in QB rating right now, Sante is the Bulldogs all time leader in that same category.
DEFENSE
The defense played well at times last season, but often gave up big plays. The Bulldogs defense is filled with aging vets and very young players with little to no experience. Bulldogs management is still waiting for young LB's Mack Edwards, Russel Hennessey, and Jose Welch to live up to the high expectations. Still available are steady, former all pro LB's Landon Marshall and Chris Sanborn. The Bulldogs secondary is another weak area, as they were shredded in 3 of 4 preseason games. The defensive front will need to apply pressure on QB's to help bail out the struggling secondary.
PLAYER TO WATCH
RB Frankie Buzzanca came into the Imperial league as an undrafted FA in 2007. Buzzanca has a huge opportunity to be an impact player this year. The only thing holding Buzzanca back is his tendancy for fumbling. If he's able to get this under control, his playing time will increase. Look for Buzzanca to eclipse the 1000yd mark for the first time in his career.
