  • AC WILDCARD: Houston at Iowa City

    A TRIVIA BYTES SPECIAL REVIEW

The Renegades and the Snipe Hunters met earlier this season and on Thursday they will tee it up again. Houston won this game by a score of 13-7.

That game was played in week thirteen and the outcome defied the season ending stats listed below:
 The Snipe Hunters and the Renegades both have potent offenses (Offensive Total Yards per Game - 5th and 6th respectively).
 On the other side of the ball there is a marked difference (Yards Allowed on Defense -the Snipes are #1 and the Renegades are #20).

This last meeting belonged to running back extraordinaire, Willford Timmerman, who obviously had the right road map to navigate around the highly touted Iowa City defense. He ran for 136 yards on his way to a Game MVP award. This dangerous distraction allowed QB Nigel Booker to do the rest as the Renegades controlled the game clock for 39 minutes to Iowa City's 21 minutes. And that was the game.

The keys to the upcoming game are simply understood but much more difficult to manufacture:

For Iowa City, they need to answer: "How a team should not lose twice to a team, if hosting both games at home? The answers will be found: 1. in adjustments that control Mr. Timmerman; 2. the defense on paper needs to show up on the field; and 3. on offense, QB Sammy Mathews, RB Aubry Beamer, & WR Archie Shapiro needs to exploit the Houston defense which has given up 20 points on eleven Sundays, two of those times over 40.

For Houston, it must disguise what they did earlier and then do it again with some smoke and mirrors. Clearly Booker and Timmerman are up for that task as they have been the dynamic duo for many a game. But more importantly, they need to put the hurt on an offense that is pretty potent but has not been consistent and that comes with controlling the clock again.

Injuries are mixed. The Snipe Hunters will miss C Richard Mahler and TE Henry Lee is questionble. The Renegades list G Jaon Downer as doubtful.

Houston Head Coach Kris Ludwig has been to the playoffs three times. Snipe Hunters' Head Coach Jorge Hostetler also been there. Neither have gone past the division round and both want to prove to their GM that they are up to that task.

I think this will be the best match of the week. I have to give Iowa City the edge, if only for homefield advantage.

I give Houston the edge when they play outside the division.

Iowa City's been slugging away for so long it's hard to root against them. Since the best team in the IFL took the year off I hope that Iowa City plays the Cinderella role this year and takes the crown.

Iowa City's recent win over Little Rock was huge. That got my vote.

                I beat Iowa City.
I have watched Houston all season and really like their team.
I think Houston makes some serious noise in the postseason.

I just foudn out that if you click on the injury on the player card it tells you preformance hit playing with the injury has, and how likely they are of getting reinjured. . .sweet! Been nice to know that 15 weeks ago!

Man, Iowa City had a huge chance up 10-3 and getting a Houston turnover on the 25 and couldn't come away with any points. But Iowa City dominates the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Man, both home teams have been super impressive thus far.
Big blocked punt gives Houston some life with like 10 minutes left but it's not enough. Another very strong win by the home team.

Man, I feel bad for Steve, rough couple of weeks to end what was shaping up to be a real solid season, but the pigeons just dominated today. Now onto Portland, which, could be, rough.
                              I luv British womenz.
