A TRIVIA BYTES SPECIAL REVIEW
Ethan Vera's Mules will host the Anchorage Lynx on Thursday in the first AC Wild Card. This is Murfreesboro first trip to the playoffs but is the third for Coach Vera who has experience as an offensive coordinator with Norfolk in 2005 and with Alburquerque in 2006. After two successful runs in those roles, he accepted the head coaching job at Mrufreeboro and has been on a mission to get to the playoffs again.
On the other side of the filed, Nathan Rappaport is no stanger to the playoffs which includes three trips to the Conference Championship Game and one visit to the Imperial Bowl in 2004.
There are two premier signal callers in the game. The Mules will rest their game squarlely on the shoulders of Opie Peterson who has lead the league with a 102.0 QB rating, 2nd in yardage (4329), and 1st in TD passes (36). The Lynx showcase Mr. Leslie Stiener who has a QB rating of 86.7, was 4th in yardage (4080), and 2nd in TDs (31).
At running back, the Mules feature Scott Fortune who is used more as a receiver as he leads the team in receptions. The Mules do not emphasize a running game which is not the case for the Lynx. Chad Richardson is a horse and the game plans do not hesitate giving him the ball as he has recorded the third most rushing yards in the league and the most rushing TDs at 12.
Both offenses like to spread the ball around to their respective reciing corps, so double teaming is a guessing game for each team. Guessing right may be a key to win.
On defense, the Mules have alot on paper ... but have not performed to the level that there credentials suggest. They give up points (ten times with over 20 points) and that is not a good omen when facing a team that ranked second in the league in scoring. The Lynx have a stingy defense when it wants to play. Most games have been stout but there has been six occasions of over 20 points.
The teams met earlier in the season ... Anchorage 35 - Murfreesboro 14. Injuries play a larger factor for the Mules who lost starting center Roscoe Bridges two weeks ago and All-Pro LT Amos Barnhill last week.
Give the guys your thoughts and well wishes.
