TRIVIA BYTES WEEKEND PREVIEW ... Division Crown and Playoff Stretch Run Begins. :shoot: #1 NORFOLK visits #6 ST. LOUIS ... In the far distance you can here the bells begin to ring a "do or die" toll for St. Louis. The Cardinals are embroiled in a classic division struggle with Houston and Murfreesboro and they don't view this as a good time for the Vipers, who haven't missed a beat this year, to make a house call. Norfolk has not been flashy. In fact their log books are right out boring. However, they do seem to control the outcome of a game by coyly emphasizing one facet on their game. Unfortunately, the other team doesn't ever get a clue as to whether it will come from the offense, defense or their special teams. On the other side of the ball, St. Louis uses a very opportunitic defense and counts on these turnovers to give their potent offense the chance to put things away. But will past ghosts haunt St. Louis again? The Cardinals have had trouble beating Norfolk in the past and has only done so once in five tries. "Not to worry", says Suicane as he opens up a can of whoop-ass that he intends to add to the Cardinals' home cooking. r00k, as resolute as his adversary, sees this as an opportunity to add one more nail to the St. Louis coffin and thereby help eliminate a potential followup meeting in the playoffs. Key players to watch for Norfolk: QB "Finger" Lozier to anybody with a white shirt on; LB Aldana and SS Welch on defense; and K Harbour, PR Brenner, KRs Donavan and Brenner on special teams. Key players to watch for St. Louis: QB McMurray to WRs Holst and Hall on offense; DE Maldonado and CB "D-Dog" Sandstrom on defense; and PR Burks & KRs Talley & Burks on special teams.
:shoot: #7 HOUSTON travels to #10 IOWA CITY ... Here are two teams seeking division championships that are up for grabs in their respective home divisions. The message is simple: you simply cannot afford a loss at this time of the year. Pressure. You bet. But these teams and their GMs thrive on these situations. After the game, Beans and roadrash won't be able to distinuish what is black and what is blue. Let's take a look at the principals in the game. At QB position, we have Nigel Booker and Sammy Mathews. Both have just about the same stats for this year and can clearly carry a team on any given day. So far, even Steven. At the running back position, Mr. Timmerman and Mr. Beamer present the biggest threats for both offenses. Both are adept at carrying the rock as well as well catching it out of the backfield for a dump-off break-away. Looks to still be pretty even. But defensely, there may be a edge. The Snipe Hunters are solid as the Rock of Gilbrator and that just may be the deciding difference. This "D" is just plain nasty. But before we call the day, don't count out the weapon of surprise and the impact of a Brant Beckner, who has taken three to house on kickoff returns for the Renegades. Should be a great game.
