  • Did someone try to PM me here?

I received e-mail notification of a PM from here a few days ago, but I have no PM. So, apologies if someone tried to contact me and you think I'm ignoring your PMs. I only do that intentionally to Buc and jbmagic.

he saw how dominant i made my team with my offseason aquisitions, and how he didn't really touch his team cuz he was all faggoty about his precious cohesion.

what he wanted to know was if cohesion was all it was cracked up to be and if his team, with players not as good as mine pretty much across the board, would be able to compete with my low-cohesion but overall much talented team?

actually, i won the Super Bowl in my 4th season (solo career) letting the AI do the gameplan for me. all i did was build the team. since the AI will adjust the gameplan each week based on the opponent (and when i would do it in 2k4 i would only make tweaks here and there, the core gameplan always basically remained the same), i'm expecting even better results.

i'll always build a better team than you (and by you, i mean other teams in general), and i think i was my own worst enemy as i probably didn't have a great gameplan. i think with the AI proving it can do a better job than i can then it's back to me focusing on what i do best.

some people are opposite - they can't get the best players in FA, they aren't savvy traders - but they can squeeze out maximum performance from their otherwise average team.

there's a reason why Belichek alllowed Randy Moss to come to the Pats. the previous method of relying on mediocre talent just wasn't getting it done. talent is what wins games. if you can keep that talent together year after year and have great chemistry, all the better. but cohesion/chemistry or not, you tell me which receiving corps you would rather have - 2006 Pats receivers or 2007 Pats receivers.

              you can't gameplan superior talent.

                  no.

see my post re: me not gameplanning well.

like it or not, the 2010 California Heroes represents the greatest team i have ever assembled - solo or MP, in any game. we're not even done, we still have to flesh out the roster with filler from FA2. but the starters are all in place. i would love to have a more superior OT, but i'll roll with what i have. they all can't be Pro Bowlers. but still, i consider this team to be an achievement and i will always remember it.

the appeal of FOF to me wasn't ever about finding the best gameplan, it was always to build a winner. i'm not a savvy gameplanner and i'm not afraid to admit it. the gameplan screens in 2k7 are very detailed and excessive and intimidating, so i'm very glad the AI has been improved to where i can let it gameplan for me.

IMO, SP careers are about building talent and trading to aquire top guys. Gameplanning is not important.

MP careers are about both. I could easily argue that my team has as much talent as yours, probably not quite as much, but close. The difference is that I've tried to develop this team as a unit. I still believe that cohesion has a huge effect in the outcomes of games. How many years can you keep that team together? How much youth will you inject over the next few years to replace the "old" guys. Being good for the long haul shows some level of success. My worst season is 7-9. That was the only time my team was below .500. That year my team was decimated by injury, and I had no clue how to gameplan.

I'm excited that you're excited about your team, however I'd like to see you make the playoffs first. Last I checked, that franchise has yet to get there.

last you checked, the Fresno Chaos didn't have any talent on it whatsoever. what i was able to do with this team in 2.5 seasons is remarkable. i need not toot my own horn, but still, i took it from the cellar of the league to on the cusp of greatness.

and there isn't any scenario where your team is close to mine in terms of talent. yes, you have the best C in the league, and your RB is top 5ish, but it ends there.

again, i'm sticking by my claim that cohesion plays only a 15% influence on the end result. i have nothing to back that up, but with all the numerous factors and ratings in the game it's hard to believe that all one needs to do is build an average team and keep it together for years and years. if you think that then i can't wait to get this season started.

I disagree, but what do I know

yes, you have the best C in the league, and your RB is top 5ish, but it ends there
I have 2 solid QB's, the BEST RB in the league, a top tier WR, a top tier TE, great group of T's. and that's my offense. My defense isn't that good yet, but it will come. I don't see how you sum my team up by calling on Rogers and Crespo. We are much more than that

i took it from the cellar of the league to on the cusp of greatness.
you won 10 games, and did not make the playoffs

Always remember this as the team that ALMOST had enough starters to finish the season...

BTW - I don't know who your imaginary opponent is that's arguing the case of building a mediocre team. As far as I can see everyone of your opponents is trying to explain to you the simple fact that you're supposed to be building a team, not a collection of high OVR players. A team is 53 deep, each with a role, and most roles are symbiotic with the others.

ROFLMAO at Crespo only "top 5ish".

QFT. Game plans aren't the end-all, be-all in FOF, but I'd strongly argue that an outstanding game planner can turn a 7-9 team into a 10-6 team, and that a very weak game planner can turn a 13-3 team into a 10-6 team.

The key in the new game is for the weak game planners to leave it mostly/fully to the AI, and not monkey with too much themselves. I've seen some things in MP that defy all logic and sense, and clearly make teams perform much worse than they should. That being said, the top-tier offensive game planners will be able to exploit some of Coach Rex's recommendations, so I'd be careful about which teams you go pure Rex against.
